Airing on Wednesday nights, The Middle doesn’t get a lot of recognition but it’s been a ratings success for ABC for five seasons. How will it perform in season six? Will it be renewed for a seventh season? Could it be cancelled if the ratings fall? Stay tuned.
Taking place in Orson, Indiana, The Middle revolves around the Heck family. It’s headed by Mike (Neil Flynn), who manages a local quarry, and Frankie (Patricia Heaton), a dental assistant. Together, they do their best to make ends meet and raise their three very different kids (Charlie McDermott, Eden Sher, and Atticus Shaffer).
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/8 update: ABC has renewed The Middle for a seventh season.
Final season averages: 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.62 million total viewers.

Due to a Nielsen glitch, some of the early ratings of the 2014-15 season were revised a few weeks later.
For comparisons: The fifth season of The Middle averaged a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.82 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like The Middle TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a seventh season?
I love THE MIDDLE and would be very sad to see it end ! Don’t let that happen!!! It’s light and enjoyable and ranks up there with Modern Family–they go together!!!!!
I too hope it gets another season. I wonder what the ratings are for ages 50+? I bet it wins in that demographic. My mother is in her 70s and loves the show. She watches very little TV but after I told her about The Middle, she has been watching re-runs and on demand. She actually asks me if I saw the latest episode!! I should add that I am in the 50+ age group also.
My family loves this show. It is one of two shows that my kids actually like. Superbly written, hilarious, relatable–it is my favorite show, and I’m just a year over the 18-49 demographic! I hope it’s renewed.
Love the show! Would not miss it on wed night. I watch all the reruns every day.Sue is a wonderful actress.I really hope the show is renewed!
I love the show. There is not many good sitcoms on television any more.
And besides Axl just turned 21 who wouldn’t want to see him turn 22 and start doing whatever the hell he wants to do. Maybe him and his friends might get really drunk in their underwears outside of his home and then someone see’s what’s going on.
I hope they renew it, because Brick is starting to be a mini Axl and I’m actually interested for the first time to see more of Brick if the show continues to air more new episodes.
Do not take this show off the air – I love the show and all the cast member
are fabulous!
I love sue!! But i guess she didnt want to see the mermaids in florida. 🙁
I love the show too and would like to see it renewed. But I read elsewhere that all the cast contracts expire at the end of this season. ABC could easily slide Fresh Off The Boat into the Wednesday at 8:00 timeslot if negotiations with WBTV studios provide too costly.
You’re a genius, David.
It’s the best I love it and have since day one its like married with children but better
Best show on tv
The middle is the absolute best show on tv I love this show. Pls renew it
This is my one and only favorite show on TV. I watch it every single day-repeats (even repeats of repeats-it never gets old!) And of course, I look forward to the new shows every Wed night. Each character in the show (main cast AND support cast) plays his or her character so totally dead-on accurate! Great, great family show that breathes happiness into this world!
Love this show! True midwestern life, and Brooke Shields has done some of her best work when she appears.
With Charlie McDermott signed by CBS for the new sitcom, Super Clyde, I don’t see ABC renewing this show. I really enjoy the show, but Axl gone, Sue in college and Brick past the cute stage, I can’t see the plot line getting any better.
Axl (Charlie) is not gone yet! His new show is only a pilot and even if it’s a success, he could still do BOTH.
I love the show and want to see it renewed please please please
