Airing on Wednesday nights, The Middle doesn’t get a lot of recognition but it’s been a ratings success for ABC for five seasons. How will it perform in season six? Will it be renewed for a seventh season? Could it be cancelled if the ratings fall? Stay tuned.
Taking place in Orson, Indiana, The Middle revolves around the Heck family. It’s headed by Mike (Neil Flynn), who manages a local quarry, and Frankie (Patricia Heaton), a dental assistant. Together, they do their best to make ends meet and raise their three very different kids (Charlie McDermott, Eden Sher, and Atticus Shaffer).
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/8 update: ABC has renewed The Middle for a seventh season.
Final season averages: 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.62 million total viewers.

Due to a Nielsen glitch, some of the early ratings of the 2014-15 season were revised a few weeks later.
For comparisons: The fifth season of The Middle averaged a 2.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.82 million total viewers.
Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like The Middle TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or be renewed for a seventh season?
I think the show can go on and on. I was one of three offspring and laugh at the parallels. The actress who plays Sue, has never even been nominated for any award. There was an episode a few years ago with Whoopie Goldberg that certainly should have been a winner.
Now I relate to all those parent self doubts.
I love the middle its the best show ever very good and never gets old after all the seosons please
Don’t cancel it.
This is the greatest show I have ever watched as far as comedy, family dynamics and just the originality in the characters. If i could start over I would wish for a kid like Brick. Keep the show going.
The Middle is “MY” life being played out on TV. Excellent, excellent writing. It is good to know that I am not there on my own with life’s struggles. The final episode left me speechless with emotions. Thank you for renewing it for another year because I can not wait to see what I will be doing next year.
Absolutely this show should be renewed. The season finale “The Graduate” was my favorite episode ever! The video montage alone deserves an award as I watched it 3 times and cry every single time. It was so moving and played to Mama Cass’s Play your own kind of music, was perfection. It’s a funny moving tribute to the rapidly diminishing middle class that every family should sit down together and enjoy it at least once. I feel confident you’ll be hooked on The Middle. I know I am.
My husband and I love watching the Middle. I love everyone. My husband loves Axle. I hope it comes back. We only watch two other shows on ABC. Please bring it back.
Im confused… Charlie McDermott (AXL) Supposexly signed on for another show.. Is he leaving?
Only If They Pick Up The Show But No Word If They Did Yet
I love The Middle, it is one of the few shows I look forward to. It is funny, sincere, thought provoking at times and with mom and dad and the three kids at different ages the show relates to any age. My family watches the new shows and the reruns, we would truly miss the Hecks if the show were cancelled.
It’s a great show, very unique in its presentation and narrative. The characters are melodramatic to show the mom’s recollection of events. Each character, as you watch the show, is multidimensional and full of heart and humor. Watch it from the Pilot if you haven’t tried the show — be glad there is still a clean, wholesome, laugh-out-loud funny, family sitcom left on the air — they’re fading fast!
The Middle is our favorite show on television. Great writing and witty delivery. We love it.
Please please. don’t cancel this terrific show. It’s one of best on TV and one that I can watch with my 12year old son. Its just a funny, smart, well written show and it shines, compared to all the junk and smut on TV these days. I sure hope the middle is around for a long time.
They got picked up for 7th season!
I couldn’t be happier! Love the show and the cast!
This is a great laugh out loud show. Preposterous situations viewers somehow relate to. Fabulous acting by entire cast, fantastic writing better than Modern Family. If my comments can help to save this show let it be known that this show should be in the top ten. I do not watch comedies, ever. Accidentally came across on the Hallmark Channel. All characters have aged appropriately while keeping their quirky and likeable personalities. Give it a try and be sure to watch a few episodes before you decide, you should be hooked by #5.
This show is wonderful! So funny an entertaining. My family loves all of the characters!
My family LOVES the Middle. We watch it as a family every week. I can’t imagine our week without the Heck Family.
I love The Middle. I watch not only the current ones, but the reruns on Hallmark and ABC Family Network. I love it and can relate to some of the goings-on. I do hope that it is renewed for more seasons.
