The Muppets will air an all-new episode later tonight, and now ABC has already scheduled the season finale for the freshman series. According to Spoiler TV, the final two episodes of the first season, titled “Generally Inhospitable” and “Because…Love” will air together on February 29.
ABC has not yet renewed the series. Does the series airing its finale this month mean this series is cancelled? There is no way to know for sure.
The Muppets returned to ABC on February 1 after the network expressed its disappointment with the direction of the series during the Winter TCA’s in January. The series was revamped during its winter hiatus after ABC announced that the series would have only a 16 episode first season.
The series has seen a drop in its ratings since its return earlier this month. Currently, it averages a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demo and 4.479 million viewers.
Could ABC decide to keep The Muppets around and renew? Anything is possible. Disney owns The Muppets, and the return was highly promoted before the season began in the fall.
Fans of this series will need to wait to find out what happens next. ABC will likely keep their decision under wraps until after the finale airs.

Canceling the Muppets? Are you kidding me! I find myself riveted to each episode and have actually laughed out loud on each one. Reminds me of the times I watched the series as a kid…ONLY BETTER! Seems like only shows with bitter language or zombies gets renewed. What’s going on with here! Leave the Muppets on…please?!
Took a couple episodes to find it’s footing, but I have laughed out loud at every episode.
This is my favorite show on TV right now
Please bring it back!!! It is Great!!!
Love the show! Can’t wait for second season.
I hope they cancel. I watched the originals as a kid, owned the DVDs as an adult, and have watched them with my kids as a father. They were very excited to see the New Muppet’s but it’s too vulgar for kids. I cant imagine anyone who liked the originals, or enjoyed any of the movies, can like this new show. Congrats to Disney/ABC for finding a way to kill a franchise that originally offered entertainment for parents and kids together.
You know the show was originally intended to be risqué, right? The pilot of the original series was called, “The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence.” Jim Henson felt pigeonholed into being a children’s entertainer, and wanted to make something that adults would enjoy as well. So this is a perfect spin-off. It’s not meant for small kids… it’s meant for us grown-up kids who loved the show as children.
I disagree, this is not vulgar at all. Granted the comedy is a little more adult, but not vulgar. It’s like all the characters grew up…except Animal and Sweetums. And Carl cracks me up every time
I love the new Muppets there the only tv show I really watch. I hope that abc will renew it plus, they left us with a huge cliff hanger on Kermit and Piggy.
I’m really hoping to see the Muppets continue. I loved the original show, and am delighted with the “fresh” take on my familiar “friends”. I think they’ve done an excellent job of making it feel relevant while remaining true to its variety show style origins. I also feel a good job has been done to make something appealing and ‘safe’ for watching with kids with a little adult humor subtle enough to go over the heads of the youngest viewers.
I have a tough time calling the show safe for watching with kids.
I’ve love to see a new second season of the Muppets. I always love all the characters of this show. I would love to see it on again in the future on ABC.
I would like to see a second season. The show is totally different from anything else on tv
Renew the muppets we need more than that one
Renew the Muppets! The whole family watches them every week. We love how they have adult humor-it makes them seem real. With so much reality TV, or dramas with murder it’s refreshing to see funny, family TV.
I hope they keep the show. I love the show. It is so refreshing and I do not understand How people my age don t love it like I do. Yes generations X ers
Yes! Keep the muppets!!
Even with the creative revamp, “The Muppets”‘s ratings and viewership have actually gotten worse than they were previously. That 1.4 demo rating and 4.5 million viewers average is only because of its early season ratings. With the post-revamp episodes dipping below a 1.0 demo rating and 3 million viewers, I think it’ll end up being cancelled anyway. A ratings performance like that has to be extremely disappointing for anyone who actually expected “The Muppets” to be ABC Network’s new flagship comedy. Too bad I’m still continue to watch “NCIS” on CBS (which airs on the same timeslot as “The Muppets”).
