Before it even premiered, The New Normal was “cancelled” by an affiliate station in Utah. NBC is hoping that some of the “controversy” surrounding this show will draw big ratings week after week.
Revolving around a gay couple and their surrogate, The New Normal features the talents of Andrew Rannells, Justin Bartha, Georgia King, Ellen Barkin, NeNe Leakes, Bebe Wood, and Jayson Blair.
These are the TV show’s ratings for the 2012-13 season, the best way to tell if The New Normal is going to be cancelled or renewed for a second season. The show typically airs on Tuesday nights and NBC has ordered 13 22 episodes.
These figures will be updated as the weeks progress so be sure to bookmark and return to this page:

The “special preview” of The New Normal had an okay start in the ratings. It won its timeslot but lost 40% of its lead-in audience. The numbers may have been negatively impacted by the fact that NBC released the pilot online weeks ago and they added this preview to the schedule just last week. Those who read TV Guide were expecting to see a new episode of Grimm.
On the plus side, NBC was up by 56% when compared to the 2011 timeslot occupant, the Miss Universe Pageant. Ultimately, the sitcom’s fate will become more clear as the weeks progress. The only thing we know right now is that it’s not a big hit or a big flop right out of the gate.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like The New Normal TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
love this show and we have to keep it. nene is my favorite and yet brian jajaja
This is a subpar show. Kind of like most of NBCs schedule. They have really fallen behind the others.
Remember NeNe is really good in her character she gives the show attitude keep her please!
Keep the all cast they are hilarious, and they teach about tolerance, love it, keep it thank you.
By the way although i don’t agree with Nana’s opinions I think she is very funny. I also like NeNe she is great and I love her attitude. Obviously keep the couple, Shania and Goldie.
One of the few shows we actually watch and don’t DVR. Love it – plz keep it on.
This show was awesome, I really hope I can see it go on.
I watched this show to see NeNe. NeNe needs a bigger part to play instead of seeing her in the background and saying a few lines. We all love her. That is why I tuned in to the New Normal. Without NeNe will I watch this show? No.
renew the new normal please
NeNe is out of her league here. These other actors are awesome and the entire show is being brought down with her lack of talent. Send her back to the reality show where she can be rude, crude and judgemental which she seems best suited for….and save this show in the process. Otherwise, if you have to have her on the show, might as well cancel it.
I hope we have many more seasons of the New Normal. It has been one sitcom which has been a real eye opener for me. And it instills a lot of hope in its viewers. The acting, script and comedy is something I greatly appreciate. And, more so, I like its ability to discuss relevant political and social issues through its episodes. I have enjoyed the first season tremendously.
Please do not cancel “The New Normal” it’s the best show out right now.
It show show real life problems in the gay community,
Please do not cancel this show…..I love all of the cast and want to see how Nene changes as a new Mother herself. ( Hope not too much, as I laugh so hard at some of her comments) If only some brave network could have had this vision and you know what….to allow a show like this with such a great cast and writers to air maybe ten years ago. Don’t laugh, but this reminds me of a reverse Archie Bunker in some ways. In a much better and realistic way but still leaving room for us to laugh and… Read more »
This is one of the best shows on television. My husband and I, both in our 60’s, really enjoy everything about the show. As parents of a gay son, we appreciate the realistic and normal portrayal of gay men. It is humorous, has excellent writing, always has a redeeming message, oustanding sensitivity and presents a vision of the changes that society is making and needs to continue to make. It is a show that all humans who love family and friends can relate to. Please don’t cancel a show of such high caliber and intelligence for another reality show or… Read more »
This show is SO important- it’s so great, warm, and original- there’s nothing out there like this. It’s like a slice of my life. I really appreciate seeing a gay relationship play out normally, not as a sidekick. I really hope this show stays around.
I will be very upset if you cancel this show. It’s funny and uplifting…different..I’m so tired of NBC cancelling shows…they don’t give them a chance! Everyone I speak with loves this show…doesn’t make sense to cancel it.
