Before it even premiered, The New Normal was “cancelled” by an affiliate station in Utah. NBC is hoping that some of the “controversy” surrounding this show will draw big ratings week after week.
Revolving around a gay couple and their surrogate, The New Normal features the talents of Andrew Rannells, Justin Bartha, Georgia King, Ellen Barkin, NeNe Leakes, Bebe Wood, and Jayson Blair.
These are the TV show’s ratings for the 2012-13 season, the best way to tell if The New Normal is going to be cancelled or renewed for a second season. The show typically airs on Tuesday nights and NBC has ordered 13 22 episodes.
These figures will be updated as the weeks progress so be sure to bookmark and return to this page:

The “special preview” of The New Normal had an okay start in the ratings. It won its timeslot but lost 40% of its lead-in audience. The numbers may have been negatively impacted by the fact that NBC released the pilot online weeks ago and they added this preview to the schedule just last week. Those who read TV Guide were expecting to see a new episode of Grimm.
On the plus side, NBC was up by 56% when compared to the 2011 timeslot occupant, the Miss Universe Pageant. Ultimately, the sitcom’s fate will become more clear as the weeks progress. The only thing we know right now is that it’s not a big hit or a big flop right out of the gate.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like The New Normal TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
It needs to be renewed. The show hits on such contraversal topics and truely different than any other show. It is funny and heart warming. The actors and actresses are very talented.
I really love The New Normal and hope it carries on for lots more years! We need more programming like this. All the actors do a great job and the writing is great. Love Nene as Rocky and I would like to see her character have someone special.
It most definitely needs to be renewed! Bryan and David are the cutest couple ever and beat both Klaine and Finchel! I want to see how they deal with Sawyer Collins (which is a really great name) and I want to see more parts of Shania because she’s sweet and Jane’s turn really surprised me and I want to see how she’ll be living her life next. In the begging, I just watched it because I wanted to see how Ryan Murphy sees himself and his relationship but it started getting funny and interesting and it became one of my… Read more »
I love this show and I’d love a second season!
This show is building an audience.. it turned off it’s gay audience with ellen barkin’s character; and they figured that out pretty quick. The larger lesbian culture isn’t discussed, and I think should be: Rosie O’Donnell should guest///// the doctors challenges are ignored, Nene Leakes is magnificent but a little bit cartoon, so are the guys. Figure out a way for Andrew to sing on a regular basis… This is a GREAT show, but if it’s gonna find it’s audience it’s gonna have to figure out what it wants to be … perhaps with the birth of the baby we… Read more »
I really hope it has a second season! It is so heartwarming and I like how it deals with such a huge issue in a way that makes you want to watch more. Bryan and David are adorable!!
This show is very important! It must be renewed!!
absolutely renew. Have them all on dvr to watch over again and have really enjoyed the characters, sets, humor and wardrobe selections. Need another season.
Unorthodox but professional production with enough cleverly heartwarming moments to be brought back. I’ll watch.
I really love The New Normal and hope it carries on for lots more years! We need more programming like this. All the actors do a great job and the writing is great. Love Nene!
