On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

Cancelling OLTL was a HUGE mistake. I loved being able to sit and watch my soap after a long day of work and kids activities. I’ve watched OLTL for about 10 years now and am still sad it’s not on. I’ll be tuning into GH just to watch the 4 OLTL character continue on. Bring back OLTL and get rid of these reality shows!!!!
I had never been a big fan of watch soaps so I welcome the new show. I really enjoy Tim Gunn and Ty Pennington. I hope it it successful.
I’m not an ABC soap opera watcher but as a 30+ year fan of The Young & the Restless, I can sympathize with the vast majority of these posts. I’m pretty mad at ABC for canceling Extreme Makeover: Home Improvement. Yet I do have to praise the network for providing viewers with a HUGE improvement over CBS’ The Talk in the 1-2 p.m. time slot. I used to turn my TV off for a hour after The Bold & the Beautiful until Let’s Make a Deal came on. Now I can enjoy Ty Pennington’s enthusiasm in this new show and… Read more »
the Revolution is BORNING… They messed up by canceling OLTL. ABC is refusing to release the rights of AMC & OLTL to Agnes Nixon, I guess they are scared she might take the shows to another network and have a success again where they now have loosers.
I don’t think the whole show is bad but every time I watch it it feels very infomercialish.
The way the cameras pan the audience and the set is very yucky.
Of course it costs less to produce because they didn’t make it visually appealing at all.
I will not watch The Revolutions like any of OLTL fans. This was a dumb move on the part of the network and whom ever decided this would be a smart move should consider a different line of work. Since the last show of OLTL aired I have NOT watch ABC for ANY show.
Having been a faithful OLTL watcher for 40 years I will never watch the replacement show The Revolution. There are already more than enough talk shows on TV. We want to watch shows like OLTL and GH. Once ABC takes GH off the air I will no longer be watching ABC at all!
loved oltl cannot relate to the Revolution. Will not watch. Bring back OLTL.
Shame on ABC. Everyday after i got off work i looked forward to watching AMC and especially OLTL.. Now what to watch. I am still dedicated to GH but as far as Revolution and The Chew. Forget it. I will not watch either one! ABC you have really hurt a lot of your fans. Or shall i say ex fans. You have showed us that it doesn’t matter what your viewers want! You couldn’t come up with something better that other tv stations have already done repeatedly. I will watch nothing other than GH on ABC until OLTL and AMC… Read more »
I knew ABC was making a BIG mistake by replacing OLTL and AMC with these lame shows. I hope no one watches, because I know I won’t be watching either.
I am GLAD the soap fans are sticking it to ABC. I haven’t watched The Revolution, nor WILL I! I refuse to purchase annual passes to Disneyland OR buy anything DISNEY, too. We have a choice where we use our entertainment dollar, and I am fine with giving it to Sea World or Knott’s Berry Farm. As a faithful viewer for 37 years, the shock and horror of losing my favorite soap would be equal to them “suddenly closing Disneyland because it cost too much to run.” It was completely UNAMERICAN and EVIL. That may be our reality, though. They… Read more »
ABC suckered us in for 40 yrs, then replace 2 great shows with GARBAGE, ain’t gonna watch, every family member knows to make sure abc is not on any tivo channel during, 1- 3pm, we all try not to watch any abc channels at all, and since disney owns rat abc we cancelled our yearly trip to disney(orlando), Disney want to upset 4 generations in my family? Then you must pay, advertisers even pulled out because of this. What real morons run Disney now, upset moms, grandma’s, etc…. payPAY PAY
I am glad their ratings suck and I pray that the show completely fails and they bring back our soaps!
Will not watch either show. Bring back OLTL and AMC. You have good ratings. Disney wants to save a little money they could care less how there fans feel. I won’t watch any Disney channels including family channel. You suck Disney.
even if they didn’t cancel the soaps……..who at abc would think it was a good idea to give ty pennington a show in the middle of the day. we have our own hyper kids around, don’t need him. glad it’s tanking.
now they’re putting tim gunn out front, cuz i guess the others don’t appeal that much.
