On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

I think they should take off The Chew and The revolution and put AMC and OLTL back on. There is a whole in our days that were filled for many years by these shows. They were more than shows they were a part of our lives. To put on what talk shows? Like there are not a million of those out there. Each on just like the last.
It’s just an awful show. Ty Pennington gives me a headache and I find all the “advice” to be insulting to women. I miss One Life to Live. It was my daily vacation. And I won’t watch John McBain without Natalie on General Hospital!
The last time I watched anything at all on ABC was the last episode of One Life To Live. The time I used to spend watching their shows, I now spend playing on the computer. They don’t have anything at all that interests me anymore!
I couldn’t tell you if it will pick up ratings but I also dont care! One Life to Live left and so did I!
I have not watch either show and do not plan to. My favorite show was One Life to Live and with it cancel I don’t even really bother to watch regular tv anymore. I used to watch General Hospital after OLTL went off but since it has been cancelled only time my tv gets turned on is when I am watching something on Netflix in the evening.I think ABC messed up by cancelling the One Life to Live and All My Children and a lot of loyal fans have been turned off to the point they are boycotting that cancel.
I will not watch the revolution!!!! abc took my show ONE LIFE TO LIVE off the air after 43 yrs. I am boy-cotting abc in the afternoon!!! There are too many other talk/news/ food /design shows on as it is now. We don’t need another !!!
I think the OLTL viewers have proven that those Nielsen Ratings have ALWAYS been off. ABC has the best tools available at their disposal (facebook) and they should have utilized it and not made the ridiculous decision they did without asking the viewers first. Even by Nielsen’s report, OLTL was doing better than a lot of their Primetime shows. I think ABC is in sad shape. If they were smart, they would admit their mistake and put OLTL back on the air!
I really love Tim Gunn and Ty P. , but I miss OLTL sooooooo much – just like the other millions of OLTL fans. I’m still keeping the faith that our soaps will come back on. You KNOW the ratings would go no where but UP!!! Besides, isn’t it the the FANS you want to make happy? We get our soaps back, the ratings go up, you make more money – everyone is happy….IT’S A WIN WIN SITUATION!!! : )
If ABC was concerned about ratings, OLTL would still be on the air. ABC lost me as a viewer no matter what they put on this time slot – it’s the only way I know to show my dissatisfaction besides these posts.
I am religious about turning off the tv a minute before one o’clock and I turn the tv back on, a minute before General Hospital starts at 3PM. I hope my program viewing is being monitored. I have enjoyed AMC and OLTL since my high school days, from 1967 onward.
Nope I refuse to watch anything on abc now… I have watched the soaps on abc since I was a teenager back in the 70’s… Since they saw fit to cancel AMC and OLTL I have decided they no longer need my support anytime of the day or night…
ABC greatly misjudged its daytime audience. There is enough reality TV on the air! Why would you mess with 40+ years of a fan base? Soap fans are very loyal, thus the decline of ratings at that time slot. Daytime viewers want STORIES, not talking heads telling everyone what they need to change about themselves!
It goes to show that your viewers did not want anything but AMC, and OLTL. You probably should have considered your viewers opinions before cancelling the shows. I will never watch anything in those time slots, and very rarely watch ABC because they obviously don’t care about their viewers.
I will not watch the new shows that replaced AMC and OLTL I am a true watcher of both for the last 30+ years of them being air on TV. And I am glad the ratings are down so now you know were are hearts belong to our SOAPS. We do miss them very much so bring them back ABC !!!!!!
Haven’t seen the Revolution; never will. I miss my soaps!! In fact, this decision by ABC has pretty much turned me off of all daytime networks. I am going back to watching movies and shows with a plot. If Courtney doesn’t get the boot soon on the Bachelor, I will quit watching ABC completely.
