On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

ABC should learn it’s lesson, suck it up, and try to get both AMC and OLTL back on the air. They made a colossal mistake and it’s not too late to correct it. No one who has allegiance to either ABC daytime drama they tossed aside will ever watch ABC daytime until they bring back our soaps!!!
I have not watched the so called replacement show, nor will I ever. Money has ruined many shows and I hope ABC has seen the error of their ways. put the soaps back on.
We will never watch those 2 shows, we want our soaps back. We are now watching other networks so take that ABC, you gave away your loyal audience. Do the right thing and get the rights back from Prospect Park and admit your undeniable mistake. And I repeat we will NEVER watch your new shows.
Really. I still think I get to watch OLTL when I get finished with work and have to remind myself it is gone. ABC I would not watch your daytime now if you had Dalai Lama hosting!
I wish this show would just bomb and they would bring OLTL back!
Why do networks think people want to see nothing but talk shows during the day? Obviously CBS doesn’t think their soaps are a burden. I don’t watch CBS soaps nor did I ever watch NBC soaps. But now we are reduced to only one soap on ABC…my beloved GH. But I have also heard that ABC is putting some other junk in the 2:00 (CST)..so does that mean GH is on the way out as well. ABC, you are making a big mistake and losing viewers in the process. Wake up and smell the coffee. Could The Revolution cancellation save… Read more »
Since they cancelled AMC and OLTL, I refuse to watch ABC anymore!!!! What the heck?!!! What idiot person (s) came up with the idea of taking them off the air???? Moving them or just having them on Soap Net or something….but what you did has made me hate the network. The view was a cute idea and I would have watched it if it were not replacing my show….the revolution looks like a big joke! I would never had been interested in it at all! I think a very poor decision has been made and will cost you in the… Read more »
Oh, and guess what? I am watching a NBC program as we speak! I NEVER would have watched this before ABC starting messing with the lineup. BAD timing after Oprah quit her show to be messing with other loyal shows. LOL You need to pay all of the CEO’s their millions before you fire them….idiots.
I was a big fan of OLTL and very upset it was cancelled. I tried watching this and it is terrible. ABC lost it with me.
Gee (sarcastically) feel so badly for them…..ABC just isn’t listening to longtime viewers and completely loyal ABC fans. They don’t care about us…….well, finally we now no longer care about ABC!
I will never watch The Revolution (or the Chew). Nothing can replace One Life to Live…don’t they understand how passionate these fans are? To take a show with rich, diverse characters and think you can replace it with cheesy reality TV…well, I don’t know who gets paid to make that decision, but they should find another line of work.
I will never watch a stupid talk/reality show. There is nothing that I like less. I was an avid watcher of One Life to Live for over 30 years. ABC can go under for all I care.
I will not be helping ABC with their ratings for The Chew or The Revolution. We don’t need either one of these shows. There are way too many of this ilk already and they are all boring. Bring back the soaps!
I will never watch a stupid talk/reality show. There is nothing that I like less. I was an avid watcher of One Life to Live for over 30 years. ABC can go under for all I card.
ABSOLUTELY, no one who watched OLTL will ever watch the revolution, bring back OLTL most people not watching that are soooo angry about that it is causing most (myself included) to boycott your nighttime programming also, I will not be watching the OSCAR either and your CHEW is so annoying, the few seconds I caught of that at the end of the program before watching ONE LIFE TO LIVE turned my stomach, to think you replaced ALL MY CHILDREN for that crap!!!!! DO NOT replace GENERAL HOSPITAL for KATIE COURIC, that will be your total demise!!!!!!! NO more ABC <… Read more »
