On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

I hope this shows the execs. at ABC what a horrible mistake they made by cancelling All My Children and One Life to Live….I have not and will not watch The Chew or Revolution. My TV is off from 1-3 and then I watch General Hospital. This better save GH and if it doesn’t I may completely boycott ABC completely. Obviously, the loyal soap opera fans are proving to ABC what our soaps meant to us and their ratings. So disappointed with ABC…
Have not and will not watch The Chew nor The Revolution.Disney/ABC has misread the public. We have more reality shows than we need. Sometimes women just want to escape in the middle of the afternoon and AMC & OLTL did just that. Do t he executives realize that the stories become part of one’s everyday life. Other than a few primetime shows that I enjoy on ABC (4 to be exact), my television is not tuned in between 1-3 in the afternoon. I’ve started watching The Young & the Restless – not bad. Days of our Lives is also interesting.… Read more »
I have been and ABC fan since I was in Kindergarten in 1975. I have followed the ABC line up for decades and my children followed in my footsteps. There was a time when I would “tape” my soaps and now my children “DVR” them. What ABC has done to our beloved AMC and OLTL is unforgivable. I will not watch The Chew or the Revolution. I now switch the channel at 1:00 to a cable network program. I am tired of the self-help, eat right, dress right shows. We already have too many. Thanks ABC
I want my soaps back on and if they take GH off then ABC will follow with no people to watch their network lol
I will not watch ANYTHING on abc,,,, Iwill not watch or buy anything disney… I think its a shame that a huge company like this can make such a mistake,,, it tells me that you dont need to be intelligent, creative , nor have any business sense to become the ceo of large corporations,,,,, where was the thought that should have accompanied this decission to cancell OLTL and AMC,? I think abc is digging itself a huge hole,, even now. Can you feel the effects yet abc????? boycotting all things disney, abc, and sponsers,,,,, I think you can feel it….… Read more »
I totally agree with you. I do not watch ABC daytime at all. I refuse to even think about another Disney vacation. We must together boycott all ABC, all Disney. They will only listen when they have to!
Big mistake, the new shows are boring , loud and forced…. Bring back the soaps!!!
TV is about entertainment. The Revolution is not entertaining. I am simply not interested in watching an unhappy person improve themselves with the help of so called experts. It is unfortunate that as a faithful ABC viewer of 25+years they have changed their programming and it no longer interests me. I used to laugh, cry and scream at the TV while watching the quality story writting and acting of One Life To Live. That was entertaining. I will no longer watch ABC. It is unfortunate that the loyal viewers have become a casualty of Big Businesses greed. Of course it… Read more »
I am so happy to see this. I will NEVER WATCH THE REVOLUTION,I don’t care what or who they have on the show. I will NEVER WATCH that or any of the other shows that replaced a soap opera. IF ABC were to cancel General Hospital I will NEVER WATCH AB C AGAIN as it is General Hospital is one of the very few things I still watch on that channel but that is game over if they cancel my favorite soap. I hope they realize what a HUGE mistake they made in canceling our soaps. I am far from… Read more »
Have not and will not watch this show or the Chew . ABC got This all wrong . OLTL was the best soap on tv and I am a loyal General hospital viewer. They never took into consideration that there are people out there that are unable to go out become part of the revolution . Their life is being shut in and took pleasure in their shows everyday for 43 years !!! And what about the rest of us that shared these stories with grandparents , children and friends. ABC is losing viewers by the day . Take General… Read more »
Will not watch ABC after the 12:00p news. Whoever is making these decisions to cut AMC and OLTL has made vital mistakes. It’s unfortunate, I might have watched either one of the new shows at a different time slot. But I was a avid watcher of AMC and supported not cancelling either of the soap operas. I’m boycotting ABC after 12 noon!
I WAS A LOYAL VIEW OF ABC FOR THIRTY TWO YEARS .SINCE ABC HAS CANCALLED AMC &OLTL .I WILL NOT NO LONGER SUPPORT THEM .& I WILL NEVER WATCH THOSE CRAPPY REPLACEMENT SHOWS.
I no longer watch ABC Daytime. At all.
I hope it does flop! That is what you get for taking AMC AND OLTL off the air…I don’t even bother watching ABC during 1pm and 3pm…I flip it to a different channel and let it go!
I use to look forward to watching All my Children and One Life to Live everyday with my mother, even if we had to DVR the shows and watch it in the evening. I am 49 years old and have watched them my whole life!!! It really bothers me that the powers that be thought so little of the fans of the shows that they could just discount us! Apparently you received better ratings for One Life to Live than your new show “The wReckolution”!!!! I call it that because it truly Wrecked our day to lose not only one… Read more »
I am very unhappy with ABC. I will not watch any daytime shows from 1 to 3.
