On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

Please admit you were wrong and give us our soap opras back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will not watch those 2 shows IF YOU WERE THE LAST TWO SHOWS ON TV!!!!!! GIVES US BACK ALL MY CHILDREN AND ONE LIFE TO LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ORDONT YOU CARE WHAT THE VIEWERS WANT~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good thing reality shows are cheaper to produce as ABC’s profits will be in the dumper!! Way to go ABC. I’ve deprogrammed ABC from all my DirecTV favorites and it doesn’t even exist as far as I’m concerned. Bring back our SOAPS!!!
If the rating are what you go by, and if at the beginning it’s already tanking, what does that say about your programming. Put back what the people want the soap operas and leave these goody two shoes programs to Oprah on cable.
ABC will not have any successful shows until they bring back their afternoon soap opera line-up. AMC, OLTL, GH. Seriously, The Revolution had no lead in show. It never had a chance! BRING BACK OUR SOAPS!!!
Best news ever! I hope these two shows fail miserably! ABC made a big mistake when they failed to appreciate and recognize the audience they had in their soap fans. As one of those fans, I would turn the television on ABC starting at 6:00 am for the news before the schoolbus comes, then leave it on (or DVR) thru Good Morning America until 7:00 pm, while doing my housework, bill paying, home-based job, meal preparation, etc. I would then usually turn it back to ABC at 8 pm and watch thru the 11:00 news. Although I miss General Hospital,… Read more »
The Revolution is a waste of time, I won’t waste the time or electricity to turn it on. I enjoyed watching One Life To Live. ABC should reconsider their decision. Paid infomercials would be better than another hour long show that is a replica of every other cheap daytime show. Way to go ABC!
I was a faithful All My Children and One Life to Live TV viewer since the late 70’s (I still watch G.H.) I can honestly say that I have never watched, nor will I watch, The Chew or The Revolution, and my TV channel will not be on ABC regardless of what you put on during those times unless it is for watching the return of my ABC soaps! For now, this stay-at-home mom will continue to channel surf most of the day!
Hardy Har Har! Seems the ALL-Knowing, Super Smart, College Educated, We’ll Fix’em Big Shots, at ABC are now paying the Piper. Poor Ty Pennington must be a REAL loser to stoop to ABC and this “show”. Personally I loved Ty on Trading Spaces and even came to like him on Home Makeover. Sadly I’ll never watch him again on ANYTHING….. ABC screwed him like they did the Fans of All my Children and One Life to Live. But the worst thing is Tim Gunn….. I LOVE THIS GUY! Now I have to decide if his betrayal (joining this motley crew)… Read more »
Will never watch the chew or revolution. Admit mistake n bring bak The Sure thing…THE SOAPS
hell yeah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will never watch ABC Daytime again since they took off All My Children and One Life to Live. Both of these worked well for over 40 years. Why mess with a good thing. Bring back All My Children and One Life to Live.
I will never watch this show or anything else they try to put in this time slot. I want my One Life to Live.
Many people are furious about ABC canceling One Life to Life and will not watch this new show. A lot of the people are not computer savvy so cannot voice their opinions online via facebook etc. but just refuse to tune in to ABC.
No I would not ever watch ABC during the day since they took away “One Life to Live”. ABC might as well have “White Noise” on their channel instead of The Revolution.
We tried to tell you…Give us back our soaps…ABC is going to get even worse ratings on all its shows, will bring you down little everyday until we get back the soaps….going to cost you a lot more in the future…on a better note all the other networks ratings are increasing thanks to your stupidity …..BRING BACK OUR SOAPS……..
Does my heart good to hear this news. I’ve not watched The Chew or The Revolution and I never will. Hope you’re happy ABC, you’re losing ratings left and right. Give us back our soaps and your ratings will once again skyrocket!
