On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

for the rest of my life i will not turn on the t.v. from 1 to 2. unless it’s on any channel except abc. i have been watching other channels not just during 1 or 2, there are a number of chanels with good shows besides abc. BRING BACK MY SOAPS. i hope the 2 new shows tank.if you bring back our shows i will forgive you and watch abc again.
“Dear ABC, you said that OLTL would continue online and we the fans expect you to keep your promise. We don’t care how you accomplish this, but accomplish this you must do! It’s pretty pathetic to cancel shows that have been on the air for decades and then to replace them with the xerox copies of shows that are on every station! Be original! BRING BACK OUR SOAPS!!! Thank you!!!
I will never watch either one of those shows. They aren’t even worth naming them. BRING BACK the SOAPS!!!
You really need to put OLTL back on!!! I no longer find ABC worth watching!! Nothing is good.. and I really don’t think I want to watch General Hospital!!!! OLTL….was the best soap out there..and you took my enjoyment awaay!! SHAME ON ABC!!! Maybe rethink your decsion to take OLTL off…. and put it back on!!
The soaps need to be put back on. The advertisers must be taking a hit too! Nobody wants to watch the new shows. It’s easy to turn off the tv now. Before I worked around the soaps to be home to watch. They shot themselves in the foot.
They (executives at ABC) didn’t listen to anyone when the fans told them to SAVE OUR SOAPS. This is the result of their not listening. It’s still not too late to bring AMC and OLTL back to viewers. It is evident that NO ONE will be watching ANY show that ABC puts in the timeslot of AMC and OLTL. The ratings have spoken Mr. and Ms ABC executives. What’s your next step?
My tv has been turned off during the daytime since they ended One life to live , and that’s how it will stay ! OFF ! Bring back our soaps !
The viewers including myself, that did watch daytime tv are not going to watch the chew or the revolution and most are not going to watch ABC at all after canceling shows that we have been watching for 40+ years! How could the execs think that these shows could stand a chance? I make it a point to make sure ABC is not on. Biggest mistake they have ever made in my opinion. They are losing ratings in all of their other shows and I’m sure their sponsors are losing out also. Bring back the soaps!
I hope it falls flat! And the chew too! I want my soaps back!!
I whole heartedly agree with all the previous comments – no more ABC – until you bring back our SOAPS – 43 years – you just don’t cancel a CLASSIC that has lasted for 43 years with some reality crap that nobody want’s to see……..
Sorry ABC – that’s my story and I am sticking to it!!!!!
Good! We tried to tell you we didn’t need anymore reality shows. ABC had a consistent following, guaranteed audience with AMC and OLTL. Here’s the proof. Sounds like they were trying to save a few bucks with not wanting to pay the actors that us soap fans love. Well, now what will you do? Try another lame game show? ABC, do the right thing and put back our Soaps! I’ll bet the viewership for GH is still up, what more proof do you want that these two dull, duplicated, reality shows are NOT what your audience wants to watch??? BRING… Read more »
mad this is so stupid of these guy’s , i knew that when ABC decide 2 drop my soap’s they where going 2 drop in rating’s , so i hope that ABC will bring back my soap’s back on tv 2 where they belong
We all tried to tell ABC that it was stupid to take away All My Children and One life to Live!!!!! I wont EVER the chew or Revo….NEVER
and I make sure my tv is not on abc at all on that time period!
I no longer watch ABC during the day. As for the evenings I only watch ABC for a couple of hours two nights a week. There’s just not anything worth watching on ABC anymore. Hope they come back to their senses & bring back the soaps I love so much. Far more entertaining that the crud they now have.
I am so glad to hear that the ratings for the shows that replaced our soaps have dropped. ABC made a big mistake and now they have to pay for them. My advise to ABC – BRING BACK THE SOAPS and ABC’s rating will go back up. All soap opera fans have banned ABC !!! Until we get our soaps back, all ABC program ratings will diminish!!! SHAME ON YOU ABC. Actually I found the CIN and NGC channel more interesting now. Those are the most watched on my TV now. As for the news, CBS or NBC do just… Read more »
