On Monday, ABC unveiled their new daytime show, The Revolution, and the ratings were anything but revolutionary. One has to wonder if the execs are second-guessing their decision to cancel One Life to Live.
Per the ratings for Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, The Revolution debuted to a 1.9 rating. That was a drop of 21% from its lead-in which averaged a 2.4 rating. One year earlier, now-cancelled One Life to Live was averaging a 2.3 rating.
For the show’s second airing, The Revolution did even worse — dropping 16% to a 1.6 rating.
While it’s too early to tell if The Revolution will be a flop, this certainly wasn’t a positive start — especially considering Monday was a holiday and more people were home than is typical for a weekday. On the positive side for the network, new series is cheaper to produce than the soap opera that it replaced.
Created by J.D. Roth, sometime TV host and an executive producer on The Biggest Loser, The Revolution is a lifestyle talk show that shows five month personal makeovers in five days. The TV series is hosted by Ty Pennington, Tim Gunn, therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, and exercise guru Harley Pasternak.
What do you think? Have you watched The Revolution? Do you think that it will be a success, even if it doesn’t perform as well as One Life to Live? Could this help save General Hospital?

I won’t watch. It holds absolutely no interest to me. I watched OLTL for the story. Another self help show is a sorry replacement.
Will never watch ABC again for cancelling my beloved soap One Life to Live.
Shove it ABC!
I will NEVER, EVER watch “the chew” or “the revolution”. Who needs another one of these type programs. BRING BACK OLTL AND AMC!!!
What we don’t need is more “reality” or “lifestyle” tv. We have hundreds of channels of competitions, reveals, makeovers, before/afters, food, food, more makeovers, and even more food. God forbid someone actually pays someone to write, act or genuinely entertain us. Soaps are not just watched by bored housewives. The vcr and dvr changed the way we watch tv. And the people at home during the day don’t want to tune into yet another boring show about how much weight they should lose and what they should wear to be attractive. We don’t need to tune into that everyday. But… Read more »
Worst mistake ABC could have made, I’ve been a loyal fan of OLTL and General Hospital since they both debuted, in the 1960’s. Now that I have retired, I have to be subjected to Reality(Garbage) shows!!!!! What were they thinking, I will not be watching the Chew or The Revolution. Bring back my soaps, at least for a while I’ll be able to see some of the characters from OLTL on General Hospital!!!!!
Puke puke puke! I agree the revolution is horrid! Click!
Revolution is very boring show. Big mistake to cancel OLTL.
Television was already flooded with reality/informercials and now another line up of the same for ABC daytime leaves a major void in programming options for viewers wanting dramas and an overabundance of cheaper talk programs. The drama viewers are not going to support ABCs new lineup and those people (an average of 2.5 million viewers 5x per week) are gone. They are not going to watch The Chew or The Revolution and therefore they will not see ads from ABC regarding any new shows or products being offered by ABC sponsers. Instead of this war going on between soaps and… Read more »
I will watch this show when hell freezes over! I have NEVER watch the Chew either. Idiotic move the part of ABC. January 13th was the last time I have watched ABC daytime. OLTL is the only soap I watched. People watch soaps to escape from their hectic lives. I wonder how many sponsors will continue banking on shows that no one cares to watch. Three million views of their products will matter. Three million viewers do make a difference. Maybe ABC will hear us where it counts….in their wallets!!!
I have already, my Direct TV to record Bold and the Beautiful , Young and the Restless,, General hospital and Days of our Lives. Whats new with my recordings playing catch up on
Bold and the Beautiful and Young and the Restless. use to follow the shows, now that All My Children is canceled and One Life To live is canceled I won’t be watching The Chew or Revolution, Tried The Chew “gag me with a spoon” and didn’t bother with Revolutions, I like Tim Gunn, Saw previews and the show’s not for real women only 10 s.
I knew it wasn’t going to be watched. There are too many shows like it on the Style network. AMC & OLTL were generational traditions for most people that watched. I don’t anticipate anyone watching The Chew or The Revolution with their mom, who used to watch with their moms, who used to listen to ” their stories” on a radio wIth their grand mothers. ABC already fired the idiot that canceled them, now they need to either step up & put them back on, or give Mrs. Agness Nixon back the rights so she can take them elsewhere.
ABC you stink I will never watch The Chew or The Revolution… I am a hard working mom and I do not like coming home after work and watching more self help shows!! From what I read above and from what I hear from other people I think ABC made a big mistake replacing soaps with BAD SHOWS!!!!
I love what Ice said! Great Job whoever you are. I am in total agreement with that comment and I can’t add anything better than what was said. On that note KICK BUTT ICE!!!!!! WONDERFUL WORDING.
I will never with that show. Nothing can replace a show like OLTL it had 43 years of history and fans.. Shame on you ABC/DISNEY!!!
I will never watch tbe chew or the revolution, or any abc programming. nor will i purchase an products that sponsor these shows. for decades the soaps made abc bookoo money, only to be thrown under the bus, ABC deaserves the same loyalty it shows its soap fans………………………………….NONE. PS are sponsors showing a drop in sales???????
