After months of speculation, FX has finally put rumors of The Riches’ cancellation to rest. The show is over.
The Riches debuted on March 12, 2007 on FX. The TV series follows a pair of Irish con artists and their children who assume the identities of a wealthy family who has died in a car crash. The show stars Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver in the roles of Wayne and Dahlia Malloy.
The series debuted to 3.8 million viewers and 1.9 rating/5 share in the desirable demographic. The numbers fell during the 13 episode season but FX still renewed it for a second year. The numbers fell significantly in season two and The Riches lost almost 50% of its 18-49 viewers.
For those that did watch, they only got to see a shortened season because of the writers strike. Only seven of the 13 planned episodes were produced and ended with storylines unresolved. It was hoped that the remaining six would be added to the order for season three but that won’t happen now.

Though the season two ratings didn’t warrant a renewal, FX was hesitant to cancel the series. Riches was a hit with critics and Driver received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Ultimately, as is usually the case, it came down to economics and resources. Things weren’t likely helped by the fact that neither Izzard or Driver were available to return to production any time soon. Izzard is booked for two movies and has a busy stand up schedule that keeps him touring. Driver recently gave birth to her first child.
After months of waiting, actor Todd Stashwick (Dahlia’s cousin Dale on the series) broke the cancellation news to fans on Thursday. The network made the official announcement a few days later.
In a perfect world, a final episode or movie would be filmed to wrap up the series’ cliffhanger. Based on the show’s ratings, that seems unlikely to happen. Stay tuned! 
The riches is one of the best shows i have ever seen This sucks! I hope that they continue with season 3 or make a movie. That would be GREAT!
This sucks! I do not get how they did not get enough viewers, it was an amazing tv series. I am very disappointed that their will not be a 3rd season and what it is worth, I think FX did a wonderful job with this show and feel bad for the people who loved it like me.
Yeah I am very disappointed that there will be no season 3. I am just a 16 year old that was bored one night and turned it to FX and watched the first episode and was madly in love with its originality. I never planned anything on those nights that it came on because it was my show. It left me in awe and like just breath taken. For some reason I kinda expected this since Dirt was also affected by the WGA writers strike which also led to it being cancelled. It would be nice to see what happens in the unresolved story, atleast Nip/tuck is going on.
i’m so disappointed. i don’t watch much TV and this is one show that i made a point to watch. yes, it was difficult because the shows were so sporadic on the lineup, but well worth the extra work. how could the network cancel such a promising show???
Okay, I saw The Riches at my friend’s house one day (because I had never heard of it GREAT ADVERTISING) and fell in love. I bought the first season and watched it over and over waiting for the second series. I watched the first couple episodes and got lost. I can’t record shows! I work nights! Dammit! I felt my heart drop to my knees when I read it had been canceled, is there some sort of a petition we can sign, maybe another network will pick it up.

I am soooooo bummed. This show was fantastic!! Minnie and Eddie and the neighbors and crazy family!! I was so looking forward to Season 3 and got digital cable just to see it!!!! Please bring it back!~~~
We watched series 1 & 2 religiously on pay TV here in Australia and absolutely loved it. Really peed off that it’s never going to be finalised, I feel like I’ve read half a book! Bugger!!
I hope the people that weren’t watching this show are now enjoying their steaming bowls of Drawn Together or fetid stews of American Idol.
yeah this is really dissapointing and im thoughly pissed off that fx would do this ive been a fan of the shows the shield and sons of anarchy and very much the riches i was wandering for months when they would announce season three so i finally googled the riches website to only find out to my displeasure and dissapointment that it had cancelled what a load of crap im never watching a another fx series again maybe if they schelduled there damn shows on a decent night and time they wouldnt have struggled with the ratings its just a… Read more »

R U Kidding me! Why get rid of (In my opinion), the BEST show on television? Please reconsider bringing back The Riches!!
This show actually made me think that good t.v was out there and worth watching.
