After months of speculation, FX has finally put rumors of The Riches’ cancellation to rest. The show is over.
The Riches debuted on March 12, 2007 on FX. The TV series follows a pair of Irish con artists and their children who assume the identities of a wealthy family who has died in a car crash. The show stars Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver in the roles of Wayne and Dahlia Malloy.
The series debuted to 3.8 million viewers and 1.9 rating/5 share in the desirable demographic. The numbers fell during the 13 episode season but FX still renewed it for a second year. The numbers fell significantly in season two and The Riches lost almost 50% of its 18-49 viewers.
For those that did watch, they only got to see a shortened season because of the writers strike. Only seven of the 13 planned episodes were produced and ended with storylines unresolved. It was hoped that the remaining six would be added to the order for season three but that won’t happen now.

Though the season two ratings didn’t warrant a renewal, FX was hesitant to cancel the series. Riches was a hit with critics and Driver received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Ultimately, as is usually the case, it came down to economics and resources. Things weren’t likely helped by the fact that neither Izzard or Driver were available to return to production any time soon. Izzard is booked for two movies and has a busy stand up schedule that keeps him touring. Driver recently gave birth to her first child.
After months of waiting, actor Todd Stashwick (Dahlia’s cousin Dale on the series) broke the cancellation news to fans on Thursday. The network made the official announcement a few days later.
In a perfect world, a final episode or movie would be filmed to wrap up the series’ cliffhanger. Based on the show’s ratings, that seems unlikely to happen. Stay tuned!

I agree with most comments, The Riches was entertainment, and that is what I look for when I turn on the tube. however life goes on.

OMG!!!!!! I have been waiting hella long for them to bring back the show and now they are canceling the show after i got all my family in friends hooked and caught up on the show! they chose to cancel this show and bring back stupid ass show’s such as rescue me seriously!! FOX/FX must not really care about making money, cause i bet all the fans that have been waiting seems like for two years would probably be freaking excited that it was back on!!! The show was great. I saw the 1st ep then couldn’t find it for a long time. I found it online and caught up only to find out the series is cancelled. Apperently, who ever made the decision must think it is more economical to air rerun after rerun for an overly expensive amount (cable costs) rather than invest in the viewers who are interested in new, exciting, well written, well acted, perfectly matched cast. Yep, another show cancelled by FOX/FX that was fantastic! I lived the entre life of the Malloy’s personally. Every detail, right down to the strung out ******-dressed wife Dahlia/Shareen. My wife got a $500k/yr job as a “realtor/deve;oper” based on cup size, and I was a fraudulent banker, with no education! My biography coming out is almost paralel! Why would a network cancel a show this good when silly, dumbass shows like Survivor and the like are the only competition. The Riches was great television, and it’s really disappointing to see it go. Thanks for getting everything wrong, Fox networks!
I would love to see the rest of the episodes, no matter how they came out. The same thing happened with Carnival, but at least they tried to rap things up in the end.
This show was awesome I’m so upset that it was canceled I’d love to see a finale or see how the show ends ..
