Some people might be upset that The Rosie Show was cancelled by Oprah Winfrey but Rosie O’Donnell isn’t one of them. From her perspective, Winfrey and OWN did the sensible thing by dropping her low-rated talk show.
O’Donnell recently spoke about the cancellation and was very philosophical about it. She said:
“Some viewers have been saying that it wasn’t fair. It was fair. Listen, Oprah gave me an amazing shot at doing this. She really did. She put me back on TV. She believed in me. I didn’t even know if I could do it again, truthfully. And she said, ‘I think you can.’ And then I said, ‘I think I can too.'”
“And off I came here to Chicago, with the best of intentions, trying, really, to do, you know, what I thought would be kind of easy for me. But it wasn’t really that easy. We sort of started off the wrong way. We were kind of trying to do a little bit of what we had done 15 years ago [on The Rosie O’Donnell Show], and you can’t do [that].”
“Lewis Carroll said that ‘I can’t go back to yesterday because I was a different person then.’ And that’s sort of what I figured out. I figured it out over Christmas break. And so we shifted the show and started to do the one-on-one [interviews]. And I think by that time we had lost a lot of momentum.”
“Here’s the bottom line: it’s a business, right? It didn’t make financial sense to continue the show at the cost because of the amount of viewers. And you know, all I want to say is thanks to all of the viewers who watched and thanks to Oprah. Because it’s not about the things that occur in your life. It’s about how you react to them. Really.”
“Oprah has treated me with nothing but respect and with dignity from day one and I thank her, and HARPO, and the staff here who were pretty amazing, really. I mean, it was a different show than they were ever used to doing. Most of these staff members had worked for Oprah for decades and they’re top notch staff and everybody here was great. Honest to God.”
“So, that’s all. It’s not a nightmare. It’s a good thing.”
Loved your show Rosie! Really enjoyed the 1 on 1 format. Will miss seeing you on TV, always enjoyed your sense of humor! Enjoy your return to your family in New York and Best Wishes on your marriage to Michelle!

I AM SO SORRY ABOUT THE ROSIE SHOW BEING CANCELLED. I REALLY LIKED ROSIE. I WISH DONALD TRUMP WOULD JUST GO AWAY. HE IS SO MEAN SPIRITED AND A GRUDGE HOLDER. PLEASE MOVE ON MR. TRUMP. IT IS NOT ATTRACTIVE. YOU PORTRAY YOURSELF AS HAVING CLASS AND WHEN YOU TALK TRASH AND HAVE THAT ANGRY FACE YOU HAVE NO CLASS AT ALL.
PLEASE STOP ALREADY. LIKE I TELL MY TEENAGER,” SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT.”
LEAVE ROSIE ALONE.
AND ROSIE PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND TO HIS ARROGANCE. PLEASE!
Just found out that The Rosie Show has been canceled & was quite disappointed! I, too, always set my DVR so I could watch it at a more convenient time & will miss it immensely!!!! Her one-on-one interviews were amazing & she has always made me, either, laugh my butt off or think deeply/differently about worldwide issues! Ro….you’ll be greatly missed & I hope to see you on T.V., again, SOON!!! Happy 50th Birthday!!
I was so sad to hear that Rosie was canceled. Please see if this can be reversed. I am a Sixty year old woman, married Forty years and have always found Rosie so sweet. We don’t have enough entertainers today that don’t bring us down so much. love your others on the “OWN” Channel but I don’t need so much self help. I would Love seeing more Rosie and her one on one interviews. Please reconsider. Hopefully it is not to late. thank you.
Sadness. I have loved Oprah forever and have come to love Roe as well. 1st on Sirius radio now on OWN. I agree with others, the time slot is difficult. Thank goodness for DVRs but I understand, recording shows does not count as much as watching live when it comes to tallying viewers. Sad, truly sad since the new format is exceptional and truly highlights Rosie’s exceptional interviewing skills. I will miss her monologues at the start of each show as they are always thought provoking.

I am sorry that Rosie’s show was cancelled. It was nice to sit back and enjoy some light entertainment after a hectic and day filled with sad world news. When Rosie was being funny…I enjoyed the show. Now Rosie and Joy Behar are off.
I am tired of the crime and violence in shows.

I do not usually voice my comments. But, this time I am because I am passionate about keeping this new Rosey format. She is intelligent, funny, passionate & a great interviewer. The guests you have picked for her are amazing and so very interesting. Because you have her show air at 7:00 p.m. I have choosen to DVR it to watch at a more convenient time. There are lots of TV choices for the public to watch at 7:00….Have you considered the 4:00 time slot. This show is worth keeping & so is Rosey. She is wonderful in this new… Read more »
I think the show is terrific. I do feel that it would do better in a different time slot. 7 pm is a busy time for most people with families. wish they could have just moved the show to 3 or 4. I think Rosie would have more viewers then. I will miss you Rosie. Happy Birthday.
I have always enjoyed watching Rosie (both her old show and now this new show). I will miss coming home and seeing her each night at 7:00. Happy birthday Rosie.
Now maybe I’ll resume watching OWN again. I commented weeks ago that
Oprah should cancel Rosie O’Donnell.
Good news!
You feel better now posting that, Carol? It always amazes me the people who supposedly don’t like someone yet they will search for something about them and actually POST (spending/wasting their precious time) — but all that matters is that YOU are happy over a lot of people’s misfortune — again, good for you, Carol; way to make the world a better place
