It seems not even magic couldn’t help bring the ratings up. The CW has cancelled The Secret Circle after one season of 22 episodes.
A supernatural series, The Secret Circle follows teenager Cassie Blake (Britt Robertson) who, after moving to Chance Harbor, discovers that she is a witch and part of a young secret coven. The show also stars Thomas Dekker, Gale Harold, Phoebe Tonkin, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Shelly Hennig, Louis Hunter, Ashley Crow, and Natasha Henstridge.
When the season began, it looked like The CW had found the perfect match for their big hit, The Vampire Diaries. The premiere drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.05 million viewers. These days, those are excellent numbers for the smallest network.

In week two, the ratings dropped 31% but were still strong by CW standards. Unfortunately, over the course of the season, they have tumbled downward. They’ve gone as low as 0.5 rating with just 1.14 million viewers. Other CW shows were performing better and they didn’t have the advantage of having such a strong lead-in.
On our CW Ratings Report Card, which measures the relative demographic numbers of shows on the network, The Secret Circle has a “B+” grade. That grade however is heavily reliant on the early season numbers and the show hasn’t been pulling those in months.
If The CW had renewed Secret Circle for a second season, the ratings would likely have been lower when it returned in the fall — lower still without a Vampire Diaries lead-in.
The CW has different standards for success than other networks and derives income from other sources beyond broadcast viewing. They also have just 10 hours of primetime space available. It just didn’t make sense to bring Secret Circle back for another season.
The series finale aired on last Thursday night, May 10th, so there won’t be any further resolution for the ongoing storylines.

I am soooo upset, I actually cried. I looooove this show, I wish another network would pick it up, I think it has the potential to be an epic show!!

Dang it. This show was my guilty pleasure. Of course the “crystal skull” storyline was lame, but the rest of the show had good potential.

I want this show back! I took the time to read the books hoping it would give me the closure from the awesome first season finale! and sadly it didnt! i want to know what was suppose to happen with the new circle!
What the hell? Just found out there isn’t going to be any more Secret Circle?!! I absolutely couldn’t wait for the next episode every week & it was such a great cliffhanger with the other witches about to enter. Now we’ll never find out what was to happen?! That sucks big time! Please bring it back!!
OMG! THE SECRET CIRCLE WAS MY ALL TIME MOST FAVORITE SHOW ON THE CW… I EVEN STARTED LIKING IT MORE THAN VAMPIRE DIARIES!! I CAN’T BELIEVE THAT YOU GUYS TOOK IT OFF OF THE AIR! I completely agree with you! I can honestly say that I really starting liking it more than the Vampire Diaries as well! I’m really sad that it was cancelled 🙁

I agree, I am pretty upset that you cancelled the Secret Circle. I watch it every week on your website as I do not have cable TV to actually watch it on the TV. There are so few shows that I actually watch anymore, and if you get rid of my other one, I would probably more then likely just boycott CW all together. 🙁 So dissapointed.
I cannot believe they canceled The Secret Circle! I loved that show. I watched it with anticipation ever week. So, let me get this straight, people love vampires but not witches? The only two shows I watched on CW was Vampire Diaries and The Secret Circle. I think both shows are great. What a shame. I think CW should give The Secret Circle one more season to see how it goes, or at least create an ending to the show so we at least have closure!
why would you do this, secret circle was great to watch and it needs to carry on, who are they to say what stays and what to go. I feel so fed up they show a great show then cut it off because some people say not enough people watch it, i know a lot more programmes that should be stoped that were only a quarter as good as this one, so unfair.
bring the show back to many ppl love it and there not that many shows now a days you can sit down and watch with your kids please change your minds and bring back the SECRET CIRCLE for lots of seasons trust me you will have your ratings

I am so upset that CW has cancelled “The Secret Circle”, I’m from Ireland and the final episode airs tonight! My friends and I are meeting up and are all watching it together, its going to be so sad.
There’s a petition on twitter for a second season, search @twitition, theres already over 17,000 signatures and it’s only been up 4 days. I really really hope there’ll be a second season!
Couldn’t a smaller network do a second season?
