[SPOILER] Last night, NBC aired the third season finale of The Sing-Off and crowned the winners of the a capella competition. Pentatonix, a five-person ensemble from Arlington, Texas, took home a Sony recording contract and $200,000. Will there be more winners and a fourth season of The Sing-Off or, will the TV series be cancelled instead?
Hosted by Nick Lachey, The Sing-Off began as a short-run series with just four episodes in December of 2009. It did reasonably well (a 2.3 in the 18-49 demographic with 6.9 million viewers) and was cheap to produce so the peacock network brought it back for season two. It returned the following December and was expanded to five episodes. That renewal paid off and the ratings rose 26%, to an average of a 2.9 in the demo with 8.6 million viewers.
NBC decided to take another chance and give The Sing-Off a two-hour timeslot on the fall schedule and 11 episodes. That gamble didn’t pay off and the ratings have been terrible.
The Sing-Off began this season with a disappointing 1.9 rating in the demographic with 5.3 million viewers. The numbers never got any better they dropped as low as a 1.3 rating, less than half of its worst demo rating last season. The show’s consistently been in fourth place in its timeslot and has lost 40% in the demo season-to-season.
The reality competition is the second-highest non-scripted show on the network but, given the state of the rest of NBC’s schedule, that’s not saying much.
Will NBC cancel The Sing Off? If the network were in better shape, of course they would. As things are, I suspect NBC will bring it back for another season but give it either a summer or holiday run, when competition and expectations are far lower.
In retrospect, they probably shouldn’t have messed with the success they’d been having with it.
But, what do you think? Should Sing-Off return for another season or are you done with it?

The Sing-Off is my favorite competition on tv. My grandaughter and I really love it. Please put on another season
Please bring the Sing-Off back. I really liked that show and was disappointed that it might not be coming back.
I feel the best music competitions on TV. Please keep it going!
Please bring the Sing-Off back. I have been waiting for it for what seems like forever. The a capella talent is extraordinary, and the judges are not nasty and seem to be down to earth. This show is well loved by a large group of people in a college town in Blacksburg, Virginia. The little kids, college students, parents and senior citizens all enjoy the show. How can NBC even think of possibly cancelling the best show I have seen on TV since ED SULLIVAN! Thanks.
Please bring it back. Loved that show !
Please bring the Sing off back !I loved watching the a capella talent . Imagine kids who really can sing !
Please bring the Sing Off back! It was an amazing show…
Is there any way to get these comments to NBC? I would love to see Sing-Off back again – love that show! Like it way better than The Voice. Please bring it back!!!
Fantastic show. I don’t watch reality TV except for this show. Fantastic talent and great performances. Pentatonix concerts are selling out everywhere. We couldn’t get tickets and that would give you an indication of the demand out there.
SEASON 3 WAS MY FIRST TIME WATCHING. I REALLY GOT INTO IT. I BEG YOU PLEASE BRING IT BACK AGAIN. IT IS SO REFRESHING SIMPLE AND UNLIKE THE CRAP THOSE PEOPLE HAVE MADE OF AMERICAN IDOL! I LOVE PENTATONIX. THEY SHOWED GREAT STAMINA AND VERSITILITY. PLEASE DON’T TAKE THE ONLY TRUE SINGING SHOW OFF. ANYBODY CAN BELT OUT WORDS TO VERY LOUD MUSIC. THIS SHOW PROVES TRUE TALENT IN THE GROUPS.
I love the show and it had better come back or i will well i wont be happy at all that saying alot we need great wholesome family friendly shows like the sing of please please please bring it back
The best reality-based singing show out there, please don’t cancel!!!
I LOVE the show but the timeslot wasn’t the best. Too many shows completing for that time slot. Moving the season to summer sounds like a good thing because more people may be able to watch.
NBC did not advertise enough, & I think they should raise the prize money. If “A I” can give 1 million, sing-off winners should at least get the same.
yes, this is by far the best talent, vocal, show. But don’t do like all the other shows & let people vote 50,000 times by texting. The voting should be for the best, not the cuties guy or girl. I thought the 10 vote max, by phone was good.
