NBC is billing The Slap as a mini-series so it doesn’t seem like there’s any danger of the series being cancelled. However, if the ratings are bad enough, they could certainly pull it before all eight episodes have aired. Conversely, if the ratings are really good, they could figure out a way to bring the characters back for a second season. What will happen? Stay tuned.
On The Slap TV show, a birthday celebration comes to an abrupt halt when a man slaps another couple’s misbehaving child. It’s a small action that ends up deeply affecting all involved. The cast for the mini-series includes Peter Sarsgaard, Thandie Newton, Uma Thurman, Makenzie Leigh, Zachary Quinto, Dylan Schombing, Thomas Sadoski, Melissa George, Brian Cox, Lucas Hedges, Maria Tucci, Marin Ireland, and Penn Badgley.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/5 update: Should NBC pull this mini-series from Thursday nights?
4/3 update: NBC has confirmed that there won’t be a second season of The Slap.
Final season averages: 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.62 million total viewers.

Note: Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Slap TV series? Would you like to see the characters return for a second season somehow? Should NBC pull it before all eight episodes have aired?
Too many stars for it not to be ongoing. They could make a go of it with creative, thought provoking stories. This first series had a serious story from every angle as was brought out in court. Not at all a cut- and-dried case. Everyone involved needed some kind of help, including the lawyers and legal system. Keep it going, just keep or get good writers. You already have an amazing cast!
NBC please rethink canceling this show. We love it. The writing and acting was so great. My husband and I looked forward every week to this show. I’m sure the writers could come up with a story line for next season. Please don’t cancel.
There was never a 2nd season. It was a mini series with a conclusion!
The show glorified the wrong of the reflexive slap, and except for the final speech by the judge, totally ignored the fact that the unstable mom is still nursing a 5 year old in public, and allowing this exceptionally spoiled brat to do anything he wishes with no barriers for his behavior whatsoever. Then they go after this “friend” and try to put him I prison for what they were responsible for – discipline. Just disgusting.
Do NOT bring this revolting story back.
Get with the program. This is how 90% of the kids are in the world now. They are BRATS and this series was great. How about bringing it back instead of sweeping **** like this under the rug.
This Is why I will stop investing my time in NBC series. NBC doesn’t give it shows a chance. The slap has potential, but it’s difficult to invest time into a series that after 6 to 7 episodes is on The chopping block. No time to develop the characters. No time to develop the storyline. NBC is get it wrong… Again.
I really enjoys this series. The characters are rich and interesting and there is definitely more story to tell. My fingers are crossed for a season 2 return.
love the show. Cried at the finale. Also clapped at the finale. Please have second season.
I really enjoyed The Slap. I hope it comes back for a second season. Family dynamics make an interesting drama. Things can get out of hand so quickly when it comes to families
Loved, loved the show until the last five minutes of the finale which , to me, most certainly did not fit the tone of the show. Should have ended with the court scene (which was fabulous) Party scene would have been ok if Gary and Rosie were absent (actions do have consequences) BUT REALLY, after what happened, would they all be at a party together? NOT IN MY WORLD
(PS Anouk , baby and Daddy should have been together )
The whole point of the last 5 minutes of the show was that The Slap was centered around a little boy who clearly forgot the whole incident that spiraled the rest of them to extremes…
great show, great actors. I am tired of shonda rhimes controlling Thursday night. So glad NBC gave us the option to watch another network with an interesting and compelling story line . I love the slap and am looking forward to season 2. For those who say the topic is wrong REALLY how’s the topic in Scandal and How To Get Away With Murder. Thank you NBC
Well written show. I would watch a second season
Great show…great acting..especially brien cox…don’t watch network tv too often so this has to be good.
Please don’t cancel The Slap!!
I really it and I hope it comes back for s2.
