Today certainly wasn’t a good day for fans of The Unit. CBS cancelled the show after four seasons on the air. For producers of the series however, today’s dark cloud also had a silver lining.
Though there won’t be any new episodes featuring Dennis Haysbert, Regina Taylor, Robert Patrick, Scott Foley and company, the show will return to the airwaves next year.
The show’s studio, 20th Century TV, announced today that the military drama has been sold in syndication. According to the Hollywood Reporter, The Unit has been cleared in 56% of the country, including Fox and CBS stations. It’s sold in all 15 of the top markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, and Dallas.
Because only 69 episodes have been produced, the stations are likely to run episodes only once or twice a week. While several series have been saved recently because of potential syndication profits, there’s seemingly no interest in continuing The Unit. This likely stems from the fact that hour-long dramas aren’t as popular in syndication as half-hour sitcoms.
The series launches into syndication beginning in the Fall of 2010.

This show was one of the very best shows left anymore. It is shame that a show reflecting the courage of our special forces cannot make its in this country. As a wife of one of the elite, it made me proud that a show finally represented these brave men and women.
This is truly ashame!!
Sorry for being so late, but we just got the final CD set and learned it was over. As a 23 year veteran of the Army, Ok some things were a little stretched, but cancelled? Hmmm, I guess under this communist coup headed by the progressives and Barrack Hussein Obama, we sure as hell couldn’t have a show that showed America as strong and always defeating the bad guys, especially if some are Muslims, now could we? How many Mosques were destroyed in 2012? I rest my case!
I am so mad they cancelled this show. I loved it, and couldn’t wait till Sunday night to see it. TV executives are so stupid.
Bring it back with the same Actors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why would you take one of the best shows on TV off the air. That was crazy,my wife and I watched it every Sunday along with some of our friends. What Happenned?
im a soldier in iraq soon going to afaganistan the unit was the show that made me want to join the military and make a diffrence bring the show back the country needs to understand what goes on and what its like for us
During the era of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, this is the perfect time for this show to be on, not canceled! Americans need to see the life of our military and their families; to understand and appreciate just what our military personnel go through. Bring THE UNIT back and with the SAME actors!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes! it extremely sucks they cancelled of one of the best written & acted show on television. Let’s be real we know who cut the show of the air do to the episodes that were to close to the truth. The U.S. Government got the show cancelled do to episodes such as (Pandemonium Part 1 & 2). Which they even state in the special features that they wrote the episode as pure fiction. Yet! months later fiction became reality in the news with an eerie similarity to those episodes that The Unit writes wrote.
As an Australian in China I just loved The Unit, totally addicted to it. Agree with all the comments I’ve read, the networks are shooting themselves in the foot by treating us like idots and fodder. We will turn to alternatives, the next generation (my son is one of them) just don’t watch TV because of the way the networks behave toward us.
I hate when the network takes a good show off the air. It pisses me off. I looked forward to the new season and when it didn’t air I was upset. I enjoyed The Unit. I thought it was a GREAT SHOW. Me and my husband watched it every Sunday Night. I think you should air it agian. AND SOON. WE MISS IT.
I think this was one of the best TV shows that CBS had coming on that a lots of people enjoyed seeing that seem to be realist. Since you are talking about bring it back on into syndication what is the reason the same characters such as Dennis Haysbert, Regina Taylor, Robert Patrick, Scott Foley and company want be involved? I’m hoping whoever pick this show up they will consider having those characters back. Too me they were they actors and actress that made the show seem exciting to watch.
It’s Halloween and this is more horrifying than anything else i could have seen today!!
I loved that show and would really like to know what channel I will be able to watch it on? I don’t have cable. The ending that they came up with would have been great. Eli Stone was another one that was a good show. The Medium, in my opinion, cannot compair to those two shows.
This is why we stopped watching alphabet channels. No consistency! They are dying a fast death and cable is eating them alive. Their news programming is horrible any decent drama and comedy has hidden political leftist messaging. No problem no one will miss them and they will join the unemployed. Is another Obama bail out coming to save them and the snooze papers?
It was a good show, my only problem with the story lines, was to much family drama, and not enough , covert action.
