After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
I’m also dissapointed in Fox
cancelling the Wedding Bells
Please bring it back!!
I am terribly upset about the Wedding Bells being canceled. I set my DVR to record it every week because I am unable to watch TV on Friday nights. Perhaps Fox should consider another night and time. It is a great show with great humor that married folks can relate to. Please bring it back or another network please pick it up.
The one show that was worth watching. If I had to choose between Bell’s or 24, I’ll take the Bell’s. I will not watch FOX until Wedding Bell’s come back.
This was my favorite show.
Just returned from a vacation to see that it’s been cancelled. Good, clean show. Cast was very attractive, story lines were great, and the whole family could watch it and enjoy.
Maybe the problem was the time slot. Please bring this show back. it was the only show besides sports and movies that I enjoyed. The rest is idiotic. This was clever!
I wish that there was a way to get the Wedding Bells back on ANY channel…it is a great show! I am not sure that I have ever been upset by the cancellation of a TV show, let alone write to complain about it….does anyone hear us????
I would really LOVE to see this show come back!!!! It is a great show that about everyone can relate to! I recorded EVERY episode so I could watch it and wouldn’t miss it!!!
I agree with everyone else. This show was wonderful and it finally gave me something to look forward to on Fridays. Please Fox… bring it back.
I’m stunned this was cancelled. I haven’t watched anything on Friday nights for years until now. I even got my husband addicted to it, and that says a lot. What a shame!
Oh how I looked forward to Friday nights and watching the Wedding Bells.
Fox you have made a grave mistake.
Even my 25 year old son could be heard cracking up while the Wedding Bells were on.
The whole family enjoyed this series. Please, please, please BRING IT BACK!
Everyone on this site, lets start a write in campaign…
My husband and I as sooooo disappointed this show was taken off. It was hilarious!! I think moving it to Friday killed it–also, any show with “wedding” in it doesn’t get too far with the guys, but once my hubby say it, he loved it! Bring it back!!
Say it isn’t so! It has taken me two weeks to find out the fate of “The Wedding Bells” and I am so-o-o-o disappointed that it has been cut. I truly looked forward to Friday night with the “Bells” after a long week with a class of kindergarteners. It is a major letdown to think that they are really gone. The show is a great, grown-up comedy. Please, something can be done to keep it going.
You guys I’ve been glued to this show hoping that I could see the twins wedding and the wedding of the rich girl and her not so rich friend. Even though I go out on Fridays I still tivo it. I wish that you guys would give it another try or show the last three shows that were taped. Come on fox do not let us down agin.
I am also very upset that this show has been canceled. My boys and I really enjoyed watching this show. I really wish you would bring it back… try a different time slot… I agree that Friday night is not a good night for sitcoms.
Why when a good clean show comes along it gets taken off the air?? Wedding Bells was a relaxing, entertaining show that could be watched by most ages. My husband and I both enjoyed watching it, now on Friday there is nothing worth our time.
BRING IT BACK
I loved this show and looked forward to it every Friday night. Why would Fox cancel it? It was cute, well written and clean. Please bring back Wedding Bells – I finally had a Fox show I loved. 🙁
