Court will soon be adjourned for ABC’s new legal drama. The Whole Truth has been cancelled.
Airing on Wednesday nights, The Whole Truth stars TV veterans Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney. He plays a powerful defense attorney who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Tierney is on the opposite side as a Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney whose father was a sheriff. Viewers are shown how each side builds their case, using their own version of “the truth.” The rest of the cast includes Eamonn Walker, Sean Wing, Anthony Ruivivar, and Christine Adams.
For whatever reason, most viewers haven’t been willing to even give the series a try. The legal drama got off to a very poor start right out of the gate. Whole Truth debuted on September 22th to a poor 1. 5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The news got even worse in week two and the rating dropped by 20%. The last two episodes seem to have evened off, registering a 1.3 rating and about 4.4 million total viewers.
The Whole Truth’s been ABC’s lowest rated show, attracting an even lower rating than My Generation; another freshman drama that was pulled after just two episodes. Likely because of the caliber of the show’s cast and because it’s being co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer’s company, ABC has been more patient with it. That doesn’t mean however that they’re going to order any more episodes. ABC has now cancelled The Whole Truth.
Via Twitter, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed confirmed that the cast and crew will complete the initial 13 episode order but that will be the end. At this point, it’s unclear how many of those will actually air.
Whole Truth remains on the schedule this week but will be preempted next week for the In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville interview special. On November 10th, ABC airs the Country Music Awards. Whole Truth is tentatively scheduled to return after that but those plans could certainly change.
Though Whole Truth has been cancelled, there is some positive news for fans of the show. With the news of the cancellation coming this far in advance, producers have time to give the series some closure. The cast and crew are still shooting and are scheduled to continue until mid-December.
What do you think? Should The Whole Truth have been cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I really like the show, looked forward to Wednesday nights. I really like the endings…
I LOVED THIS SHOW. IT IS ONE OF THE FEW SHOWS THAT I COULD GET MY HUSBAND TO WATCH WITH ME. THE WRITING AND ACTING WERE FABULOUS! I JUST DO NOT GET IT. WHY DO NETWORKS NOT GIVE A SHOW A CHANCE ANYMORE? I WAS TELLING FRIENDS AND FAMILY ABOUT THIS SHOW AND JUST WHEN THEY WERE TUNING IN —– WHAM BAM! COUNTRY MUSIC TAKES OVER. PLEASE , PLEASE FIND A WAY TO AIR THE REST OF THE THE 13 SHOWS. THANK YOU
I am shocked that ABC would cancel this terific show. The stories were very good and the acting was top notch. I am so sick of reality t.v. that substitutes for good dramas with a twist. I think, like so many of the above fans, this show was never promoted, I just happened to see it and once enjoyed so much, I set up to dvr each show. No one listens at ABC so what’s the use of complaining.
I loved this show – the surprise endings – both sides – as well as a real idea of lawyers.
Maybe the idea of it wasn’t advertised well – the “bite in the butt” at the end of each episode. It focused more on seeing how the defend and prosec. worked.
I don’t think it had a decent chance though.
I love this show. Such a different twist to really find out the “TRUTH” in the end. I don’t feel the network gave The Whole Truth enough time to catch on. There is so much crap and repetitive series ie: CSI really how many can you watch @!!@. Keep in on and give The Whole Truth more time. The TV watchers need a quality show !!!!!!!!!!
Come on, why are all the good shows getting cancelled this season? Undercovers was moderately good, the little i saw of it at least. At least NBC’s show ‘Chase’ is safe, i’m loving that right now, but The Whole Truth was one of the new shows i loved, i loved the new aspect of the topic, loved the sexual tension between Kathryn & Jimmy and was so excited to see where it was going to end up, if it was going to be like a Booth & Brennan situation, a ” will they? won’t they? ” type of thing. But… Read more »
Too bad this show is being cancelled! I love Maura Tierney and Rob Morrow and the show itself is well written and fun to watch. I agree with some of the other comments that the network did a miserable job of advertising. I hope they give it another chance. Maybe on another night or time slot. I also don’t remember either of these 2 actors going on any of the talk shows to promote their show. Maybe that would be a good place to start!
fabulous show-very intriguing how we see ‘the whole truth’ in such a new way. i’m so tired of the same format of all the Law and Order’s, the CSI’s and such. this show was a breath of fresh air in a very stuffy genre`–shame on ABC for cancelling!! WE WANT THE WHOLE TRUTH BACK!!!
Loved the format. Can’t believe it’s cancelled. Hope the network reconsiders and brings it back soon.
I was a huge fan of the show. Rob Morrow was sexy and Maura Tierney is one of my favorite actresses. It was amazing to watch her play a role of being in charge. She was the reason why I watched the show to begin with. I watched all five episodes and I prayed that I was off work so that I could. I do wonder if people who recorded the show from DVR was rated as being a viewer. If they wasn’t then they should be. The show wasnt given a chance before it was pulled. In my honest… Read more »
I cannot believe the network cancelled this show. This show had great story lines and I was telling everyone how much I enjoyed watching it and how in the end the real deal was revealed. People had not even heard of the show and kept saying they wanted to check it out. I was ready to blow up my DVR because I thought it was neglecting to record one of my favorite shows. I also had people telling me they did not see it on the Wednesday line-up. I am very disappointed and the failure of the show had nothing… Read more »
My husband and I are very disappointed to learn that The Whole Truth was canceled. If it didn’t have a large enough audience and the ratings that go with that, it can only be because ABC did not promote the show as it should have. It was an absolutely wonderfully unique show. What other law and order show actually lets the audience know what really happened? What a shame this show was canceled. Shame on ABC!!!
Seriously, My Generation and now The Whole Truth is canceled!? Honestly, if they just stop looking at the numbers and watch the shows themselves they might find them to actually be keepers. Just because viewers are not to be seen the first few episodes doesn’t mean they won’t turn up later. Look at the number of fans for the popular one season show Firefly. If the producers had kept that going they would have made a lot more then what they did. I think the reason there was a low turn out was due to the way the show was… Read more »
I think the Network didn’t advertise it enough and it’s very narrow minded to think two shows would give a fare chance of how well it will do. The two shows I saw was great. I didn’t even hear of the show until I came across it one night looking for any new shows. I might have missed the first 2 shows. You got to re-think this and give it some advertisement and more time. This is a good show. What have you put in its place, JUNK!
I really really like this show I started telling everyone about it. I just realized my DVR hadn’t recorded the last 2 weeks and I searched to see if it got cancelled and sure enough…. My husband started watching it with me too and it was one of our new shows we would watch. Love how you get the truth at the end and I like the chemistry between to 2 attorneys. This show should definately stay on the air!
