Court will soon be adjourned for ABC’s new legal drama. The Whole Truth has been cancelled.
Airing on Wednesday nights, The Whole Truth stars TV veterans Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney. He plays a powerful defense attorney who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Tierney is on the opposite side as a Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney whose father was a sheriff. Viewers are shown how each side builds their case, using their own version of “the truth.” The rest of the cast includes Eamonn Walker, Sean Wing, Anthony Ruivivar, and Christine Adams.
For whatever reason, most viewers haven’t been willing to even give the series a try. The legal drama got off to a very poor start right out of the gate. Whole Truth debuted on September 22th to a poor 1. 5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The news got even worse in week two and the rating dropped by 20%. The last two episodes seem to have evened off, registering a 1.3 rating and about 4.4 million total viewers.
The Whole Truth’s been ABC’s lowest rated show, attracting an even lower rating than My Generation; another freshman drama that was pulled after just two episodes. Likely because of the caliber of the show’s cast and because it’s being co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer’s company, ABC has been more patient with it. That doesn’t mean however that they’re going to order any more episodes. ABC has now cancelled The Whole Truth.
Via Twitter, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed confirmed that the cast and crew will complete the initial 13 episode order but that will be the end. At this point, it’s unclear how many of those will actually air.
Whole Truth remains on the schedule this week but will be preempted next week for the In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville interview special. On November 10th, ABC airs the Country Music Awards. Whole Truth is tentatively scheduled to return after that but those plans could certainly change.
Though Whole Truth has been cancelled, there is some positive news for fans of the show. With the news of the cancellation coming this far in advance, producers have time to give the series some closure. The cast and crew are still shooting and are scheduled to continue until mid-December.
What do you think? Should The Whole Truth have been cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I have been looking for it to come on every Wednesday, and disappointed each week that it isn’t.. It was something different for a change, and I don’t think it was given enough time for people to really give it a try..
i LOVED this show i think it didnt catch on because nobody knows about it!!! the shows premise is brilliant and it couldve been a number 1 hit if it had been promoted right and if it had a more interesting leading female star, the one they had on the show was kinda dull to watch.
One of our favorite court dramas, sorry to see it end.
THAT SHOW THE WHOLE TRUTH IS SO EXCELLENT.I CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY WOULD CANCEL IT.PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THE SHOW.AGAIN PLEASE DON’T.
REGARDS,
LEONARD NEAL
I think the show is outstanding with too great actors I remember from from ER. I think the only problem is that it was airing opposite two other legal shows, Law and Order and Criminal Minds. If it had been scheduled in another time slot, not opposite another legal drama, I am convinced it would have been a hit. I wish they would give it a chance in another slot. I certainly am not watching th drival they are running in ABC in the absence of The Whole Truth. Competitive time slots are never a problem for me because I… Read more »
I am so disappointed that this show has been cancelled already. I really enjoyed it and I don’t think that it was given a chance. I hope that ABC will reconsder their decision and bring this show back. If a show is not an instant hit within the first few weeks it is immediately cancelled, sometimes it takes a big longer for a show to catch on.
I am sad. This was a good show. I don’t understand the inner workings of TV-land. what was wrong with it? It had the intrigue, the good girl/bad guy drama, the potential love interest, I loved it and am very sad.
This is a great show with a wonderful cast. It should not have been cancelled. I don’t understand why good shows are cancelled and so much garbage is allowed to stay on the air.
The main reason is that show was under-promoted. There were also some inherent weaknesses in the show too. There was not enough character development of the two main protagonists – making it harder for the viewer to identify with them. But the structure of the show and its plotlines were interesting. With a little tweaking and a lot better promotion I think the show could have been a success. It should have been given a lchance to improve and develop a following.
It was one of the few shows on ABC that I made a point of trying to watch. I don’t think it was very well promoted and I just happened to catch it by accident the first time and made a point of searching to find out when it would be on again only to learn that it has already been canceled. ABC was too quick to pull the plug on one of the few shows around that was worth watching.
Poor Promotion! I really like both those actors and would definitely have given it a try but never even knew it existed until I read it had been cancelled!
Don’t watch many shows due to my work schedule, but i always recorded this one and watched it on the weekend. Loved this show !!!!
I really enjoyed the show!!! I thought it was different how they showed the whole process surrounding the case, and how they showed both sides – the prosecuton and the defense. I have no idea why the show didn’t make it….. =(
I was wondering where the show was. I am so disappointed – loved the show. It is ashame that people didn’t even watch it and give it a chance. It was not a reality show and that is what I liked about it. I loved the cast and I loved the endings…… Please bring it back or sometime of show like it… sad……
I really enjoyed this show. Please find a way to air the remaining 13 episodes. I don’t think ABC gave it a chance.
