Court will soon be adjourned for ABC’s new legal drama. The Whole Truth has been cancelled.
Airing on Wednesday nights, The Whole Truth stars TV veterans Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney. He plays a powerful defense attorney who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Tierney is on the opposite side as a Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney whose father was a sheriff. Viewers are shown how each side builds their case, using their own version of “the truth.” The rest of the cast includes Eamonn Walker, Sean Wing, Anthony Ruivivar, and Christine Adams.
For whatever reason, most viewers haven’t been willing to even give the series a try. The legal drama got off to a very poor start right out of the gate. Whole Truth debuted on September 22th to a poor 1. 5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The news got even worse in week two and the rating dropped by 20%. The last two episodes seem to have evened off, registering a 1.3 rating and about 4.4 million total viewers.
The Whole Truth’s been ABC’s lowest rated show, attracting an even lower rating than My Generation; another freshman drama that was pulled after just two episodes. Likely because of the caliber of the show’s cast and because it’s being co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer’s company, ABC has been more patient with it. That doesn’t mean however that they’re going to order any more episodes. ABC has now cancelled The Whole Truth.
Via Twitter, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed confirmed that the cast and crew will complete the initial 13 episode order but that will be the end. At this point, it’s unclear how many of those will actually air.
Whole Truth remains on the schedule this week but will be preempted next week for the In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville interview special. On November 10th, ABC airs the Country Music Awards. Whole Truth is tentatively scheduled to return after that but those plans could certainly change.
Though Whole Truth has been cancelled, there is some positive news for fans of the show. With the news of the cancellation coming this far in advance, producers have time to give the series some closure. The cast and crew are still shooting and are scheduled to continue until mid-December.
What do you think? Should The Whole Truth have been cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

Bring it BACK, at first there were so many shows on, I didn’t see it, but my friend told me about it, and so I watch and was hooked….the best thing about this show was…at the END, how it told you the truth of what really happened, and who was really guilty… so many times I watch Law and order and wonder, welll did he do it? or not? please give it another try, and besides I love Maura and Rob….I follow those people on what ever they are on…..Maura on ER, and Rob I have loved since northern exposure…… Read more »
I can’t believe one of the seasons best new shows has been cancelled! I LOVE it and am SO disappointed. Did you consider that it may not have had much of a chance opposite Jim Belushi’s new show (The Defenders)? Give it a chance on a different night…maybe Tuesday. Over 1 million viewers can’t be wrong and we deserve to be heard too. Come on ABC! Show the remaining episodes and see if other viewers jump on board. Please don’t make us watch The Defenders!
Please bring it back. It’s my favorite new show of the season. There’s got to be a better way of determining what the public really likes than the Neilson ratings.
ABC sucks. They never keep on any of the good shows they debut. This was a great show. “My Generation” was a good show also. “Life with Brian” good show. Sure get rid of the good shows and keep all the crappy reality shows on. The reason we don’t watch is we know that once we get hooked, ABC will pull the plug.
After viewing the first few episodes I did find the show intiguing and tried to second guess the “Whole Truth” of each case. It really is adictive and somewhat” heady”if you give it a try. My wife and I (over 40) loved the show. Bring it back in some similar incarnation either on ABC or another channel.
PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!
Why are rhe canceling the show, I thought it was a good show. Please give it anoher shot as there ARE lot more crappy shows on that I wouldnt watch but The whole truth is a great show. Maura Tierney is a great actor and what she has gone through she deserves a shot. She is a great actor and I am being partial as I knew her Dad, we came from the same town growing up and he was a Lawyer so that is why Maura plays the part well..BRING THE SHOW BACK……
I loved the show and really hope it comes back!!
It was the best new show on TV this year. Very disapointing this got canceled.
I can’t believe the Whole Truth was cancelled; I really enjoyed the show and have been disappointed the last couple of weeks not being able to see it, I just assume there were “specials” hijacking the spot but it was coming back. I hope they reconsider because the chemistry is perfect and it’s different than other things out there. I’m so disappointed! Maybe another network will be smart and pick it up because it will catch on they just didn’t give it a chance.
What a shame! EXCELLENT series! SUPER actors! Bring it BACK!
I don’t understand why ABC cancelled this show after just a few airings. ABC did not give it a chance – Shame on them.
This show was unique and I really enjoyed watching every Wednesday. I’m dissapointed with ABC’s decision. It’s a bad one. I’m sure it will be replaced with yet another stupid reality show. Very sad. Wish ABC would reconsider for those of us who thought The Whole Truth was a solid show.
Once again, the viewing public has shown it’s lack of interest in an intelligent drama. I loved this show. It was anything but a formulaic law show. It was brilliantly acted and directed. I don’t think ABC gave it enough time to catch on. I was still telling people about it and encouraging them to watch. I loved the show and have hated every Wednesday night since the “specials” started airing in its place. I can’t wait to see the remaining episodes. Shame on ABC for canceling it so quickly.
We LOVED it! It became our favorite new show on television after the first episode. We have been missing it with their lame replacements. Please bring it back!!!!!!!!!
Wow I am so sad this show was cancelled. I tried it out on a whim after hearing zilch about it and I loved it. It was my new favorite series. I really think the fault lies in lack of advertising. It was on opposite the defenders, which was highly advertised and I thought it stunk. It really just needed more time to crawl out of the advertising hype of the defenders. Comeon execs BRING IT BACK!!!!!
