Court will soon be adjourned for ABC’s new legal drama. The Whole Truth has been cancelled.
Airing on Wednesday nights, The Whole Truth stars TV veterans Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney. He plays a powerful defense attorney who was raised on the wrong side of the tracks. Tierney is on the opposite side as a Senior Trial Assistant District Attorney whose father was a sheriff. Viewers are shown how each side builds their case, using their own version of “the truth.” The rest of the cast includes Eamonn Walker, Sean Wing, Anthony Ruivivar, and Christine Adams.
For whatever reason, most viewers haven’t been willing to even give the series a try. The legal drama got off to a very poor start right out of the gate. Whole Truth debuted on September 22th to a poor 1. 5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.85 million viewers. The news got even worse in week two and the rating dropped by 20%. The last two episodes seem to have evened off, registering a 1.3 rating and about 4.4 million total viewers.
The Whole Truth’s been ABC’s lowest rated show, attracting an even lower rating than My Generation; another freshman drama that was pulled after just two episodes. Likely because of the caliber of the show’s cast and because it’s being co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer’s company, ABC has been more patient with it. That doesn’t mean however that they’re going to order any more episodes. ABC has now cancelled The Whole Truth.
Via Twitter, co-executive producer KristieAnne Reed confirmed that the cast and crew will complete the initial 13 episode order but that will be the end. At this point, it’s unclear how many of those will actually air.
Whole Truth remains on the schedule this week but will be preempted next week for the In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville interview special. On November 10th, ABC airs the Country Music Awards. Whole Truth is tentatively scheduled to return after that but those plans could certainly change.
Though Whole Truth has been cancelled, there is some positive news for fans of the show. With the news of the cancellation coming this far in advance, producers have time to give the series some closure. The cast and crew are still shooting and are scheduled to continue until mid-December.
What do you think? Should The Whole Truth have been cancelled? Why do you think it didn’t catch on?

I enjoyed it too. It was a tough slot! I DVR most programs that I watch so its no big deal. But for those that must deside, I’d have picked either the Defenders or Law & Order: SVU before the Whole Truth, but it had some promise if it could have held on.
the show was awesome ,leaving you in suspense till the end was an original idea .Like the previous response read” not enough ad time to promote the show” . Just like the studio did’nt give the show a chance , i won’t be giving the replacment show a chance!
I am so disappointed that The Whole Truth is being cancelled. It was clearly the bright spot in the fall new shows. I wish you would reconsider!
One of the better shows on t.v. Too much to choose from and not enough advertising. When networks make too many changes, people forget when it is on and lose interest. If you are going to spend the money to create the show, you need to see it through to the end otherwise there is no way it can be successful. Haven’t they ever heard of evergreens? Not something that is a slam dunk from day one but continues to just be good….Shame.
I’m soo disappointed this is such a good show. I love how they actually show “who do it” or “who didn’t do it”. I think it should be on Monday or Tuesday nights instead….nothing good seems to be on then.
I loved this show, and it was my favorite of the new line up, along with Dancing with the Stars. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks 🙂
THIS IS A AWSOME SHOW. IT SHOWS HOW EACH SIDE TRY’S TO FIND THE TRUTH AND PROVE THAT THEY ARE RIGHT. CLOSEST SHOW TO REAL LIFE WORKING OF A THE COURT THAT I HAVE SEEN IN A LONG TIME..
IT’S A SHAME THAT IT DIDN’T GO OVER WELL. HOPEFULY THE SHOW’S DIRECTOR AND THE STUDIO WILL GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE. WE LOVED IT.
This is an intelligent show with a twist. Too bad it was cancelled. Bring it back.
I love the show too, give it a chance!
I really liked the show, it should give it another shot with maybe some more advertisement. A lot of people I talked to never heard of it.
I think the networks should give rating points to the shows that are DVR’d and watched later… or to shows watched by way of HULU. The fact that there are so many good shows on. And in the old days before VCR’s and DVR’s where around, you actually had to watch the show or miss out completely. Now you can record a show and watch it a more convent time to the viewer. I have four DVRs and I record EVERYTHING!. Of course that doesn’t make the advertisers happy. But HEY! If they’d bring the volume down a bit and… Read more »
It is a good show. It makes you think about both sides and I really like the end when you get confirmation.
I LOVE THE SHOW. VERY SORRY THEY ARE CANCELLING. THEY DID THE SAME THING WITH ANOTHER FAVORITE SHOW OF MINE’S FLASH FORWARD. I WISH THEY WOULD BRING THAT BACK.
Loved the show – I love how it resolves in the final few minutes. I like when a show ends with a twist, that hasn’t been mapped out or leaves it to your own imagination.
Very dissapointing, I think they need to give this show another CHANCE!
I was very diassapointed that the show was cancelled. It seems that when you get a good show you cancel it. I also loved The forgotten. I am so sick of reality shows and am not going to watch the shows you have said you were replacingthe good shows with. I will go to another channel. I wish you would give these two shows another chance also. There are many unidentified victims and The forgotten gave us all something to think about. I wish I were able to do something like the people portrayed in this show. With the Whole… Read more »
