To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

I can’t beleive you guy cancelled Three Rivers. I really think you should bring it
back on another night. It was great to see the sights of Pa.
I cannot believe this. Three Rivers is my favorite new show. What in the world do people wanT?
I think it’s a grave mistake to take this show off the air. Because of this show, I and a few other friends have decided to donate our organs after death. I now have a “red heart” on my drivers license, indicating that I am a donor. The one show that really touched me was the one with Mandy Patankin. I really cried for him and his daughter. But he did the right thing and helped so many. We need more shows like this to improve the publics minds and souls. Please try to keep it show going. Thank you.
I am really upset to find that this show has been cancelled… I was just searching to see what and when my shows were coming back on. What do you expect when you put shows up against football. I love this show and want to see it come back. The cast was great and the storylines were awesome. I looked forward to it every Sunday. So sad 🙁
Three Rivers was a great TV show.
It was exciting, fascinating, well acted and much more.
I can’t believe it was cancelled.
Considering there is so much trash on TV.
I am so upset that that Three Rives was pulled. It was a very good show. There is alot of stupid shows out there but this one I really enjoyed. I liked my sunday night tv line up. Extreme Home Makeover, Amazing Race, Cold Case and Three Rivers. Well Amazing Race is over till new season, Cold Case has been all repeats up until last night and the only thing on is Extreme Home Makeover. Why bring in a good show only to dismiss it. Yet lets keep shows on tv that are absolutely ridiculous such as: Private Paractice, The… Read more »
I loved Three Rivers. It was a refreshing change from all the crime shows. It brought a great story line and awareness for the need of organ donors. I hope CBS will have a change of heart and bring it back!
Maybe the fates are working towards correcting an injustice—bringing back Moonlight. CBS executives have as much as admitted that they made a huge mistake in cancelling the show. An resurrecting a series from the (un)dead is not unpresidented——–they did so many years ago with “Forever Knight”. But, in order for such a plan to succeed they MUST bring back Sophia Myles (Beth Turner).
I love 3 Rivers. It is a great show and I have written many papers on organ donation and am very interested in the process. Please bring it back!!!!!
CBS’ first mistake was cancelling Moonlight. Then you gave Alex a character that had no mystique, dopey dialogue and the show was not exciting. It had nothing new to offer. Let Alex out of his contract so he can keep us intrigued playing a character that has some ‘spice’ to it and can show off his amazing talent.
The concept of the show was on the flat side. The plot did not make sense to me and the story line was disjointed. Sunday night football had nothing to do with it. It lacked strength, the characters weren’t strong enough, it lacked pizzazz. There was nothing to grab you – no “villain” per se, no sweeping romance, no intense action, and lastly no compelling drama. It was ordinary. I had higher expectations for this show. Even having a black woman in charge was not compelling because they did not portray her with strength or with a strong position. Very… Read more »
I miss this show!!! I hope and pray it comes back!!!
Regardless of it being a late Sunday night show, it was exciting and realistic and I enjoyed watching it regularly. I stayed awake countless nights only to find that football had gone over scheduled time and interfered with, if not replaced, Three Rivers. Very frustrating. And now, to my surprise, I read that the show has been pulled. What’s the deal? And it’s being replaced with none other than another criminal investigation program. Please… bring it back.
Really enjoyed Three Rivers. Very disapp0inted that it has been cancelled. This show was the only one worth watching on Sunday nights.
I enjoyed watching Tree Rivers and I am dissappointed in finding out the outcome of the show. I would like to see the remaining episodes. I hope that CBS plans to air the final shows.
