To little surprise, CBS has pulled Three Rivers from the Sunday night schedule, effective immediately. Will the show be back? Has it been cancelled?
Three Rivers follows a group of dedicated doctors and medical staffers who help those in need of organ transplants. The series stars Alex O’Loughlin, Katherine Moennig, Daniel Henney, Justina Machado, Christopher Hanke, Amber Clayton, and Alfre Woodard.
The medical drama got off to a slow start in the ratings back in early October. Unfortunately, the numbers only got worse as the weeks wore on and it became a likely candidate for early cancellation.
To CBS’ credit, the network has been patient with the series and has kept it on the air. Two weeks ago, the network tried switching timeslots with Cold Case. While the veteran crime drama benefited from the time change and attracted more viewers, Three Rivers did not.
Three Rivers has now been pulled from the Sunday night schedule. As expected, Cold Case will slip into the earlier timeslot and repeats of various crime dramas will take over at 10pm.
A CBS spokesperson has said that Three Rivers’ fate has not yet been decided but the network has not ordered any additional installments beyond the initial 13 episodes.
Eight episodes of the drama have been aired, leaving five on the shelf. CBS will likely burn them off either on Saturdays or during the summer months but, unless the execs have a major change of heart, Three Rivers is essentially cancelled.
What do you think? What went wrong with Three Rivers? Is Sunday night football to blame for the show’s failure to attract more viewers or was the show flawed?

We loved Three Rivers. It showed the compassion for the patients. It was a truly touching show. We hope that CBS considers bringing it back.
This show was my very favorite. I love medical drama anyways but this was head and shoulders above any I’ve watched. Not everyone is glued to football all Sunday AND night!Who’s Neilson anyways? He never asked me!!!!
Bring it back pleeeeease….loved it!!!
My sister and I was so sad to hear about it being cancelled . we recently lost our brother and he was a organ donor and we watched the show and it made us feel so honored to personally know a donor and how much it effects lives ,we didnt get to see what goes on but we know know because of this show how my brother was treated and what the family felt ,while we cried and was in pain my brother death was life changing for another family ,i think airing the show during a different time would… Read more »
I hope CBS brings the show back. I’ve really enjoyed it. I like the mix of medical and drama. I don’t think it is the show. I think it is the time slot/night. Give this show a chance on another night. PLEASE!!
I definitely think that Sunday night football and the inevitable variation in the time slot contributed to problems with Three Rivers. It was a well written and well acted show. I hope CBS reconsiders and comes up with a time slot that showcases the show.
I personally loved the show. I thought the plot and storyline was different. How it was three different matters connected to one hospital. I was wondering what happen to the show. I hate to see it go. One of the few shows with meaning, but we all know its about business and money.
I really hope that CBS reconsiders taking Three Rivers off the air. I love the show and the cast and the acting was great! The storyline was incredible and just SOOO WELLLL done! Unfortunately, I think Sunday nights are not the best viewing nights partly because of the football games that almost always run late and then you lose track of time and it is frustrating. Why not move this to Wed. night at 8 and get the two awful sitcoms off the air? I’m just saying…. thanks for listening.
I am very sorry to see it go. I don’t know what was wrong with the show. If CBS doesn’t think it has good ratings then put the show on TNT or another channel as they never cancel shows like the big networks do.
I’ve been looking every Sunday night for the 3 Rivers show to come back, and just found out that it’s been cancelled. That sucks!!!! I really enjoyed the show. It showed human decency and compassion. I guess unless the show has violence, blood, death or rapes in them there not good enough to keep on the air!!! And people wonder why the world is like it is.
My husband and I loved the show! Cold case is the show that needs to be canceled. The amazing race is awful also. Give three rivers another chance!
My husband and I loved the show and looked forward to watching it after Amazing Race on Sunday nights. It was nice to see a hospital show that focused on the patients and not the personal lives of the hospital staff. We hope CBS gives it another chance in the 9:00 spot–we don’t want to stay up later!
I love this show. Why can’t the networks give these shows more of a chance. We only get to see 8 episodes, then they pull the plug. Come on give me a break. I am also tired of all the reruns. I think I am also going to quit watching any new shows. Any show that peeks my interest, just seems to vanish.
I also enjoyed the show. Please bring it back at another time or station if you feel that was the problem. I personally saw nothing wrong with the show, but I could see how 60 minutes could definitely hurt any shows chances. By the way, how does 60 minutes get the freedom to run over time any time they please? Doesn’t seem right.
Again, please bring Three Rivers back for another chance.
Please, give it back!!!
