Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Why do you have to keep cancelling all the great shows after the first season. Trauma was a great show and you need to bring it back. You have all these FBI shows why not cancel some of those shows to bring back Trauma.
I really liked Trauma it was the only good show you have on for a long time so you cancel
Trauma but you keep junk on like the office which I think should have been canceled a long time ago.I guess if the show is well like take it off the air and leave the junk on.
a disappointed viewer.
this was a great show. my husband and I really loved it! why do the good shows get taken off? oh wait, I guess it all depends on who it is competing against.
I am SO upset that they are cancelling this show!! This is one of the only shows I’ve been able to get into in a long time! I always looked foward to coming home from work every Monday to watch it. I can’t believe this show is being cancelled!!! PLEASE reconsider this NBC!!!
This is one of my fav shows and I loved the cast! You shiuldn’t cancel it.
Trauma was the only new show I liked last year. I am so disappointed that they cancelled this show. Thank God for cable!
You finally had a show that I liked as well as ER. Please bring it back. If you have to make a slot for it get rid of J. Leno.

I LOVED this show!! I can’t believe they cancelled it! That was one show i looked forward to seeing every week, and waiting for a second season, & they cancelled it, leaving all the stupid, boring ones on. Unreal, really.
Trauma was a Great show. It is ashame that they leave stupid shows on, and take Great shows like Trauma off!!
I have been looking for the show for 3 weeks now

its pretty bad the goods ones are cancelled when the dumb ones with nothing going for it attract the viewers
It just goes to show you all the losers out there that enjoy stupid humor and teensex show
some that could be canceled instead
Desperate house wives
greys anotomthe office
cougar town
the office which are some with no ethical meaning what so ever
No i don’t think it should have been caneled it was a good show.
Please Reconsider your decision to Cancel this great show. I watch it every week. Look forward to it. These first responders never get credit for the lives they save. This show does just that. Please look at what the viewers have to say…………Please………..
Finally some decent shows come on the air Trauma and Mercy and now one is being taken off and another doubtful. Who is making these decisions —certainly not the viewers. Please reconsider taking these great shows off the air…and take some of the other junk that is totally senseless off…
My husband and I loved trauma-it wasn’t one of those predictable medical nighttime soap operas.
Trauma is a good show, it should not be cancelled
