Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I’m back. I have to admit that during the first 2 episodes Rabbit really irritated me. I thought they should of gotten rid of him in the helicopter crash. But then he grew on me. What am I going to do without my Rabbit fix every week. He replaced my Dr. Kovac from ER. Come On NBC. What are you thinking.
My kids and myself all made it a point to watch Trauma and Mercy both. The kids loved Trauma more and I just loved them both. I cannot believe you chose to cancel it. It needs to be brought back ASAP!!!
OMG! I had no idea NBC was cancelling this show. It was a great show with lots of action and we were just getting into the different characters and their nuances! What the heck is wrong with you?? Bring it back. . . right away please!!!!!
BTW – we also LOVE Mercy. Please keep your hands off of Mercy.
Thanks.
Finally, a show I enjoy on NBC and you decide to cancel it. Thanks
loved it bring it back it can’t end like that
[…] it’s saving something. It definitely isn’t filming for NBC’s Trauma, as that was canceled last […]
I loved the trauma shows. What are ya’ll thinkin???? Finally find a show I like and it is gone. I looked forward to Monday nights. Now?????? what. Jill
i was wondering what happened to trauma i love that show and was waiting for the next week and it never aired. i don’t watch mercy and don’t plan to. i looked on the website and it said it was cancelled which i hope you bring it back on the air. and i am sure i am not the only one who feels that way.
signed very dissapointed
Finally a show that was realistic and fun to watch, and you go and cancel it. Shame on YOU! Bring it back, Our hometown heros deserve a show like this.
It was too schizophrenic. Too many small stories which did not connect (during a given episode). There was little arching. It was like a failing restaurant where the owner tries to shake things up a little, try this try that, becomes unfocused and finally realizes it was over long ago.
This show was insulting to those of us who actually do the job, as well as unrealistic and just plain stupid. In the very first episode there were so many fallacies and errors that whoever they hired as a consultant should have been slapped silly. It really needed to go, it was just garbage.
I really liked this show.I have been very anxious to watch it after the holiday.PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!
I think that stinks. I really liked that show.
I love this show. I have been waiting to see the next eposode. BRINK IT BACK!!
I am very upset!!! I was really beginning to like Trauma. I got hooked from the very get go, and I had to watch every week!!!After the last episode I could not wait until it came back on after the holidays. I had to do a search on the computer in order to find out that it is being cancelled! BRING IT BACK!
