Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

Bring Trauma back! I love the show! It is a combination of Third Watch and ER, such a great one, bid mistake cancelling it. Hopefully they will bring out Season 1 on DVD at least.
My wife and I were wondering what happend to this show. Looked forward to watching it each week. Would like to see it brought back.
I really loved this show I wish it would not have been cancelled. It was one of my favorite shows.
This was a fun, intelligent drama that was just beginning to mature with its characters and their idiosyncrasies. Why would you cancel it??? Please, give it another try, along with some promotion.
I can’t understand why NBC canceled Trama. One of the best on TV and got better each week. NBC needs to bring it back.
great show.. bring it back…
I can’t believe you cancelled the best new show on nbc !!!
No wonder NBC is in last place. I would fire who decided thst and get some new figures.
Keep Trauma – drop Mercy!!!! Actors/Actresses in Mercy are horrible.
I just don’t understand why all the good shows keep getting cancelled and the crap gets to stay. Trauma is a great show. Full of action and anticipation. The only downfall for this was that it was going against Monday Night Football. Bring back my show, football is over and will have a lot more viewers. Rabbit is one of the coolest characters on TV.
really bummed I loved this show….
what a bummer! great show. That and Three Rivers were the only ones I watched for the new season. What a poor job of promoting this show NBC did. If I see one more vapid reality show, I am going to puke. Another reason to stick with cable. I hardly watch the network series anyway.
