Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

One of the better new shows of the season, AND one of the fews things I watch on NBC. Don’t these turkeys ever stop to think that the dreck before and after a show has something to do whith the ratings? I’m about done with NBC.
I only watch a few TV shows Trauma is or was one of them. I can not believe they cancelled it for Mercy!!!! What can we do to get it back on. There must be something! It is by far better than that stupid show Mercy! I tried watching it, it is horrible. BRING BACK TRAUMA! WE WANT TRAUMA BACK! IT WAS THE BEST SHOW ON TV!
Boooooooo Trauma was a great show. I was really getting into it.
Ok, I’m am pretty much fed up with NBC. First they cancel Southland over some difficulty with the writer’s position on the Jay Leno 5 night a week time slot (do your web research to find out more) and now it’s Trauma which bites the dust. Southland and Trauma were two of the best programs to air last season. I really will not be watching much NBC as I think the corporate geeks who make these decisions are not in touch with what the public wants.
Finally a decent show and Trauma is cancelled!!!! This is a very big disappointment and would like to have a good show like ER or Trauma again! The characters were outstanding and did a perfect job!!!
I agree with you.
Speaking as a future paramedic, I thought the show rocked. I hate it when networks cancel good shows with no warning. As far as I’m concerned Trauma was the best show that NBC has had in sometime.
I can’t believe they did this! What part of the show sucked???
I really enjoyed the show trauma….no one watches shows because we know as soon as we start to really like a show it will be taken off of the air! So frustrated. It was my new favorite show. I also love Mercy. Keep our shows on tv and stop showing us nonsense reality shows all the time.
OMG!!! yet ANOTHER good show bites the dust. I am about to give up on TV shows all together!! All they seem to want to keep on are reality shows and csi crap cop shows. I am so freakin’ pissed off they cancelled this and I am sick to death of getting into a show and they ALWAYS, always cancel the falker!! I have HAD it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the way back to Men in trees! This is the last straw. cancelling this AND Three Rivers. They can kiss my white used to TV watching ASS!!! NO more!!
yeah reality tv sucks where are all the good shows!!!
OMG! I JUST FOUND IT THIS TRAMA SHOW IS CANCELED! THIS IS REALLY BAD. I WAS WAITING FOR THREE MONDAY’S IN A ROW. THEY HAVE TO BRING THIS SHOW BACK ON. I LOVE THIS SHOW.
I LOVED Trauma and am extremely disappointed that NBC decided to cancel it after giving it only a few months’ chance. The chemistry between the characters was one of the best on television today. NBC made a big mistake
My husband and I loved this show – please bring it back – there’s nothing good on tv any more!
Omg I was looking forward to a return here in january but to find out it has been canceled sucks they cant just leave us hanging with the ending, I think it would have better reviews and more viewers if it wouldnt have aired first thing in the fall with millions of other shows on that night hope they come to sense and bring it back!!
I love this show and am very sad that it is going to be cancelled! I hope you will reconsider and bring it back!!!! Please!!!!
I have missed this show. I have been wondering why it was on air. The show took place of ER for me. I really loved this show
