Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I really enjoyed this show, I will miss watching every week ..never missed a episode
Trauma was a excellent show the network should have never pull the plug on it. I really enjoyed the show.
I am very angry that Trauma was cancelled. It was a terrific show. Never missed an episode. Networks always cancel the best shows. They are stupid.
I CAN’T AGREE MORE! WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH TAKING TRAUMA AWAY FROM US. I AM NOT HAPPY
I am very distressed that Trauma has been canceled. It was an exciting and gritty show. Please, NBC, bring it back.
I agree it should have some closure, either a finale episode or a short film of some sort. I don’t disagree however with its cancellation. In my own opinion, it was due to be cancelled from the start. Yes, it brought a lot to the table but in reality it was “too much”. Speaking for many of those working in EMS (including myself) it painted a bad picture on EMT/Paramedics, but it also made every incident so over the top that it was just too unrealistic to watch w/o laughing. I did however watch each episode thinking, maybe it will… Read more »
Trama was and is a great show. I made sure I had nothing going on during that time just so I could watch it. I loved all the characters. There is nothing on t.v that even compares to that program, including Mercy, that I watch. Watching Trama on HD made me feel just like I was there. Please reconsider !
I am very disappointed that Trauma was cancelled. I rarely watch TV, however this series was the first show in a long time to catch my attention; its unique and entertaining. I’m shocked that NBC would make this decision. I hope that after seeing the many upset viewers NBC will decide to continue the show.
This was a great show. they should of kept it on. the ratings were low cause it was on same night as Monday night football. My advice is move Jay Leno back to late night so the big shows can be on at 10pm et/9pm ct. Like put Trauma on wed night next to Mercy. Have a medical wednesday or something like that. Mercy at 8 and Trauma at 9pm this is CT zones so adjust to your time. so Mercy, Trauma, late local news, jay leno. Trauma would see high ratings then. Trauma is like ER and 3rd watch… Read more »
i am very disappointed i waited every week for this show and now im like wow. why is it that the best shows are the ones to get cancelled if i had to choose between trauma or mercy wich i also watch and never miss i would of definatley picked trauma. if i missed it on tv i would watch it on hulu i want more .
I DIDN’T CATCH THIS SERIES FROM THE BEGINING BECAUSE OF ‘DANCES WITH THE STARS’, BUT WHEN I FOUND I COULD WATCH EACH WEEK’S NEW EPISODE ON FRIDAY NIGHTS, I WAS HOOKED. I WENT BACK ON-LINE TO WATCH EACH EPISODE AT LEAST THREE TIMES. I LOVED THE CASTING, I LOVED THE CHARACTERS. I THOUGHT THE WRITING, SITUATIONS AND PHOTOGRAPHY WERE OUTSTANDING. THE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND THE PLOTS WERE EXCELLENT. SELL IT TO FOX. I THOUGHT IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS I HAD EVER SEEN AND WHEN IT WAS CANCELLED, I FELT LIKE I HAD LOST A GOOD FRIEND.
I am real mad that they took this show off the air….it was one of the best in a while!! I loved this show!!
Trauma should have never been cancelled. Trauma was better than other shows and all the silly reality shows out there. NBC, please consider bringing it back, it was a GREAT show.
I m so mad that was such a great show maybe it was unrelistic but it was still a great show i waited all summer to watch it and now is over instead of getting rid of it the should of thought about fixing the problems people had with because i loved this show it was the best show ever. im sick doctors getting in the lime light paramedics help to and they should get a show or two about them .
WHAT A MISTAKE! I thought this was one of the best shows on television…so much better than “Mercy” and better than any of the those stupid reality shows. I think what killed this show initially was its time slot – up against “Dancing with the Stars”. They never gave it a chance! Please consider bringing it back!
Trauma should have never been cancelled. My daughter and I recorded the show and watched it religously. The content of the show gave you real live situations alo g with their personal stories that were true to the heart … can’t say the same for all the stupid reality shows out there. It’s so hard to find shows now a days without sex, murder, violence. Please, please put it back on or better yet give it to another network and they will be more successful. I feel so bad for the cast, it doesn’t appear they got closure.
