Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

This really caught me off gaurd. I have my DVR programmed to record the show and wondered why I never had the correct show. I didn’t even know the show was cancelled!!! This was a very exciting and brilliant show and I can’t believe NBC has cancelled it. My heart is really broken as I was a big fan of ER and had become a fan of Trauma after the 1st episode I watched. Please bring it back NBC……
Maybe now that the “ino slot is open, they will bring back Trauma
This is a shame, I finally found a REALLY good show and some pencil pusher decides it does not make as much money as those STUPID Reality shows…. Shame on NBC
I am very disappointed that Trauma was cancelled! My (former Paramedic) husband and I (RN) really loved it and looked forward to each and every episode! We got our teenager kids to enjoy it too, although the 15 yr old said “yuk” quite a few times. Is there even a minute chance that the network reads these and would put it on for another season?
WHAT? I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT TRAUMA HAS BEEN CANCELED WHILE CRAP CONTINUES TO AIR SEASON AFTER SEASON. THE WRITING WAS SMART AND MEDICALLY ACCURATE, THE ACTING WAS EXCELLENT. NBC DID NOT EVEN GIVE THE SHOW A CHANCE TO CATCH ON.
I can’t believe NBC is cancelling another good show. I don’t think I will get interested in ANY of your programs anymore NBC because you are as predictable as the economy! You will never be Number One in TV viewing! Maybe you better rethink who is running things in the background. Here’s a suggestion, sell the rights to FOX. They have you beat Hands Down! They know how to promote a series. Get a clue!!
this sucks why not cancel one of the those damn reality shows
Trauma was an amazing show! It was exciting, had fabulous characters, and gave a great look into the lives of paramedics. It was one of the best medical dramas since Marcus Welby and Medical Center!
Why on earth the powers that be at NBC have chosen to cancel the show is beyond me! Another stupid mistake made by the higher ups! Seems to be a lot of that gonig around lately.
Once again the good show is removed to make room for a crummy one.
So sad to see Trauma leave the air. It was a Great Show as is Mercy. I enjoyed them both. Bet they will put on another stupid reality show. Sad ;( Please Bring Trauma Back
I was extremely disappointed to find that the show Tramua was cancelled. I found the storylines to be interesting as well as action filled. As a retired emergency services personnel, I really enjoyed the show and am sorry that some ‘suit’ decided in his infinite wisdom to terminate it. My wife and I enjoy watching it together. I think you should reconsider and give it a chance to run longer.
It’s so hard to find good drama on television anymore with all the reality shows. Trauma was a great show, I loved the actors, the action, special effects etc. and am crushed that it wasn’t going to continue. T.V. doesn’t seem to be about the viewers anymore, but what makes the most money. Mindless reality shows. So sad.
I loved this show.
I love love this show it is my new favorite and am very sad that is has been cancelled…truly I will miss this show…I wish they would reconsider, the cast was the best …………
I love Mercy & Tramua! Bring back Tramuma
NBC you are crazy. I’m glad you finally received the message about Jay Leno!!! But how dare you take off Truma. This was the only thing I watched on your channel besided Law and Order (Criminal Intent and the regular one). You all need to get your acts together.
