Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

VERY DISAPPOINTED
The show was great. A lot of action and real life stuff. I like the personalities of the cast and how they got along with one another. VERY REALISTIC. So very dissapointed in NBC they cancel ALL the good shows…..three rivers…
where do these numbers come from???? i didn’t get a survey. i love this show. hopefully another network will pick it up.
Best show to come out in a long time. Another poor decision by the network to cancel it. Maybe they’ll come up with another dumb reality show or haven’t we ran out of them yet…………
I cant believe that its cancelled!! I loved it!
Best exciting show ever!!! It had a lot of potential with its exciting action scenes and real life dramas. This is a big,…HUGE… mistake to cancel it. NBC needs to rethink again as usual!!!
I thought Trauma was a great show and the acting was super! The actors seemed to be able to play off of each other…………please bring it back!
Who is it at NBC who makes these idiotic decisions? This was a show with great potential. Most shows that we think of as having been great didn’t start out that way. They didn’t even give this one a chance. It’s just another NBC mistake (like the whole Leno thing). They messed up prime time AND late night.
I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE CANCELLATION OF TRAUMA, IT WAS A GREAT SHOW!!!!!!!! Everyone I know that saw the show liked it. Many people had not heard of it, one reason is that it was running against Monday night football. Not sure who is making the decisions at NBC these days, but maybe there needs to be some personnel changes! With the cancellation of Jay’s show at 10 you now have 5 slots to choose from to put Trauma back on!
Trauma was a great show! Wtf?
I liked the show! Of course I work EMS too. Everyday is not a mass casuality like the show made it out to be. I wish they would put it back on.

i loved trauma thank you. and im very upset that it is canceled
wow. i love this show. i was so excited during the coming weeks to its premire, and i never missed a show. i cant believe they just cut it like that. they got to give a show a season or two before they cut if off the air like that. i was so excited to see what was going to happen the next season. especailly with rabbit and nancy! so sad.
It seems NBC does not have a clue anymore. Example the Jay Leno fiasco. I like Taruma and I know it would have picked up fans..especially since people are tiring of the lame brainless reality shows and not funny comedies…..who are they broadcasting for …the preteen group????
Cancelling Trauma is a huge mistake! This is a refreshing series to all the other ER drama’s. This was the first show that actually kept me on the edge of my seat through each episode. We love this show and are very disppointed that there will be no future! NBC, please reconsider!
This suck! My husband and I love this show. Trauma is great!
