To little surprise, TNT has cancelled their low-rated drama, Trust Me. Despite having two former network stars as the show’s leads, the series never took off.
Trust Me revolves around a fictional Chicago ad agency. Tom Cavanagh and Eric McCormack play co-workers and friends whose relationship changes when one of them gets promoted. Others in the cast include Geoffrey Arend, Sarah Clarke, Mike Damus, Griffin Dunne, and Monica Potter.
The show debuted on January 26th of this year, following TNT’s successful The Closer. It attracted 3.4 million viewers, losing about half of its lead-in’s audience. The second episode dropped to just 1.9 million viewers and things got worse from there. The network began airing episodes in double doses by mid-March and the last two installments ran on April 7th.
McCormack obviously saw the writing on the wall and signed on to a new ABC pilot last month. Now, TNT has made it official, announcing that Trust Me won’t be returning for a second year.
The network’s executive VP and head of programming, Michael Wright, believes that Trust Me was a creative success but just couldn’t find an audience.

What the heck?? This was my favorite show.
Thanks TNT, thanks a lot.
Simply unbelievable… Great cast, great chemistry… Compelling storyline. Infinitely more attractive and intelligent than 99% of standard TV fare (cop-drama, cop-drama, hospital-drama, reality show) Trust Me could easily have taken off given more time, but no… shot down before even reaching its prime… You know, in pro sports, they’d let the coach do his thing for a few seasons before unceremoniously dumping him. Not so in commerce-driven media. In the television industry, it most certainly is “commerce over art.” With so many shows being cancelled this season, I think maybe I’ll unceremoniously dump my cable subscription. This is just one… Read more »
Seriously. TV is getting just like the rest of corporate america. if it doesn’t make next quarters numbers look good, shitcan it.
it was one of our “look forward to” shows, we never missed it. We just started talking it up to our friends, too late I guess. Really the first time I’ve ever tuned into TNT on purpose. And we’re all 25 – 54 year old upper middle class professionals with good jobs and money to spend. Bye, TNT! Have a nice life.
What a great cast to be unemployed. Come on TNT give us something besides women with fake southern accents to watch.
Trust Me was all about my ad agency. I howled at the similarities. It made me laugh at how absurd my work life has become. Yet another network mistake. Killing a show after two months with little to no advertising support behind it.
Trust Me quickly became my favorite show on television. I can’t believe it was cancelled. It found a unique way of characterizing what it is to work in the service business. I laughed at how closely it mimiced my professional life. I am deeply saddened by this decision.
I was so hoping for a new season of Trust Me. It came as a huge shock that the show got canceled so quickly. The show was in it’s first season & most shows take that time to find their footing. I don’t know a show on air today, where the 1st season wasn’t the worst. This one, in my opinion, took off strong with a solid & creative writing style, supported by a strong, enjoyable cast. It would’ve only gotten better.
I can’t believe this show is cancelled! I loved how quick and witty it was! I especially love Tom Cavanagh, and it was great to finally see him in something! I’m pissed this show is cancelled! They did no advertising for it.. the only reason I even heard of it was because Eric McCormack was on The Soup. TNT sucks!
I can’t believe Trust Me was cancelled! My husband and I looked forward to it every week. It combined drama and humor, and the characters were so likable! We’re also fans of The Closer and House, but this show was our favorite. What a bummer.
Loved the cast Er[c Tom Monica Sarah and the rest of the guys
I learned about the world of advertising
I looked forward to seeing it every week
Loved the series I will miss it
Another good show cancelled. These TV executives just do not know what they are doing anymore. Give me a break – it was only on 2 months. I loved the characters and the writing. I hate the reality shows and TV is just getting horrible!!! How about all the hits in the past that took about a year to get their audience. Look at Seinfeld. They have the same amount of people watching as Mad Men so why cancel now? I give up on TV.
NOOO!!!!!!! Why is it all the good, well written, different shows get cancelled and all we have left to watch is reality CRAP? I am so sick of TV programs that are not entertaining, they are just contests to see who can make the biggest fool out of themselves. I am cancelling my cable and going back to reading books!
NOOOOO!!!!! This show was one of my all-time favorites! So sad to see it cancelled. It was a highlight in my week. Stupid networks!
They should have given it a better chance. Even Seinfeld had a bad first year. This was an interesting show – I don’t look a ads the same way anymore.
all the dam good show have been Canceled thats not far it was just starting to get goot what gay **** you are
