To little surprise, TNT has cancelled their low-rated drama, Trust Me. Despite having two former network stars as the show’s leads, the series never took off.
Trust Me revolves around a fictional Chicago ad agency. Tom Cavanagh and Eric McCormack play co-workers and friends whose relationship changes when one of them gets promoted. Others in the cast include Geoffrey Arend, Sarah Clarke, Mike Damus, Griffin Dunne, and Monica Potter.
The show debuted on January 26th of this year, following TNT’s successful The Closer. It attracted 3.4 million viewers, losing about half of its lead-in’s audience. The second episode dropped to just 1.9 million viewers and things got worse from there. The network began airing episodes in double doses by mid-March and the last two installments ran on April 7th.
McCormack obviously saw the writing on the wall and signed on to a new ABC pilot last month. Now, TNT has made it official, announcing that Trust Me won’t be returning for a second year.
The network’s executive VP and head of programming, Michael Wright, believes that Trust Me was a creative success but just couldn’t find an audience.

This show was great!! I am highly upset that this show was cancelled!! I hope that a different network can pull it off like they did “The Office” and “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” It was very interesting and unique, i tuned in every week and i was actually happy that i could get a double dose starting in May.
Absolutely loved the show. DVRed every episode…it was amazing! I’m SOO sad… plus, I loved the way TNT involved the viewers with their commercials and their commercials really were good. How could this show get axed?
I’m jumping on the bandwagon of disappointment!!! It was such a great show and I’m soooooo bummed that it was canceled!!!
Way to go TNT… :I
Great show, and I’m very disappointed, but not surprised. Any show that I make a point to watch dies early. I think I am giving up on all scripted TV – nothing lasts.
I am really disappointed Trust Me has been cancelled. I, too, was wondering why it was not recording Tuesday nights on my DVR the past few weeks. It was literally one of the few shows I taped that wasn’t a reality show, because that seems to be the only thing on television these days. I had been watching it from the very beginning, and yes, although it had a slow start, I kept watching it & ended up loving the show. It’s so disheartening to get hooked on a show only to have it cancelled. TNT please reconsider …
I watch all the dramas on TNT and am glad that TNT hasn’t given up on them. In fact, TNT is on of the only networks that hasn’t. I began watching ‘Trust Me’ but gave up after four or five episodes because I found Tom Cavanaugh’s character to be so self-absorbed and abrasive that I just didn’t enjoy the show as much as I thought I would. TNT launched ‘The Closer’, ‘Saving Grace’, ‘Leverage’- all of which I enjoyed. if I didn’t care as much for ‘Trust Me’ and ‘Raising The Bar’ I figure I’m still ahead of the game.
Pleae give this show half a chance. I did not realize until sooo many people out there pointed out just how many cop and medical dramas we are inundated with these days. I see that your new Jada Pinket-Smith drama is to be one of them. I had grown really attached to the show and I feel like shows get cancelled on me all of the time. I loved the relatinship b/t Mason and his wife. Want to see Simon get fired and also see if Sara and Connor get together. There were so many directions the show could go… Read more »
YES! I would have really LOVED this show if Tom Cavanagh’s character hadn’t been such a narcissistic fool. I had high hopes during the promotional period and looked forward to the first show. However, Cavanagh’s character ticked me off more than the show entertained. Tom Cavanagh is an excellent actor and I’m sure that he portrayed the part as was expected. But I want to laugh and be entertained after a day of work, not want to throw stuff at the TV because of such an insipid character. A change there very well may have been the difference between a… Read more »
This show was my absolute favorite. The characters, the actors, the writing was the best on television all week. I am so tired of reality shows and legal dramas. TNT, please bring Trust Me back and give TV viewers a chance to find this winner.
You cancelled Eric Mccormic! How is that even posible? Come on TNT, have some sense. This is one of the only shows worth watching anymore. American Idol takes up all of the TV time with the same old singers while two dancing shows produce false dancing. People learn to lose wait? Come on, This is crazy. One of the only shows left that doesn’t suck and you get rid of it. You had something here and you let it slip through your fingers. Is this the way you thank your audience?
To bad they canceled “Trust Me” … I actually enjoyed it, never missed an episode since it first aired. At least now I know why my DVR is not taping it at 9pm on Tuesdays, it is really toooooooo bad!!!
Like my colleague says, Trust Me was all about my ad agency. It was fun to see how things really are in an advertising world. Big mistake!!!
Unacceptable! I wasn’t sure what the show would be like when I first watched it. Turns out it was awesome and became one of the few television shows bookmarked on the DVR. I didn’t miss an episode. TnT, you suck! I will no longer committ to a show on your network for fear that it will get canceled. Once again TnT. YOU SUCK!!!!
wow, this was a great show. im 18 years old and instead of watching mtv or anything like that i was glued to my tv every time this show was on. and now that am having Trust Me withdraws i google anything that will give me hope of season 2 starting soon but noooooooo i get this…. thanks TNT 🙁
Great show, it got better toward the end. You know they wanted to cancel Happy Days after the first season. Don’t do it TNT, don’t do it. It takes awhile and it was dead on I work in an agency that is just like that group.
