To little surprise, TNT has cancelled their low-rated drama, Trust Me. Despite having two former network stars as the show’s leads, the series never took off.
Trust Me revolves around a fictional Chicago ad agency. Tom Cavanagh and Eric McCormack play co-workers and friends whose relationship changes when one of them gets promoted. Others in the cast include Geoffrey Arend, Sarah Clarke, Mike Damus, Griffin Dunne, and Monica Potter.
The show debuted on January 26th of this year, following TNT’s successful The Closer. It attracted 3.4 million viewers, losing about half of its lead-in’s audience. The second episode dropped to just 1.9 million viewers and things got worse from there. The network began airing episodes in double doses by mid-March and the last two installments ran on April 7th.
McCormack obviously saw the writing on the wall and signed on to a new ABC pilot last month. Now, TNT has made it official, announcing that Trust Me won’t be returning for a second year.
The network’s executive VP and head of programming, Michael Wright, believes that Trust Me was a creative success but just couldn’t find an audience.

TNT, can you hear us? Would you do something about it? This is a straight message, not a Tweet, not a FB update, not anything subtle. At least release a PR update that you’re CONSIDERING the return. I’d (and countless other fans) would appreciate it.
I work in TV and to my shame, on a show I’m to embarrassed to state here. This show gave me new inspiration. Most of the writers on my team are hacks, but we’re taking in the numbers. At least TRUST ME had true story. The cast was FANTASTIC.
Please don’t cancel this well thought out and original show. It is well written and fantastic when it comes to storyline. TNT, be strong, be a voice of original programming. Don’t succumb to the fact that it got no promotion. Mason and Conner rock and I don’t even work in advertising (yet!). Can I just say it’s inspiring me for a career change?!
I thought this was a great show. Original and very funny. I don’t understand why it never took off. Very sad to see it go.
I liked the show, sad to see it go, as an Art Director it was fun to see a show about my career. It was the only reason I watched TNT.
And as a Bonus My Agency (Momentum) won the Rolling Rock pitch in one of the last episodes. And it was based on the campaign we had actually produced.
I’m so sad! I was still hoping it was going to come back but after so many weeks I didn’t know what was happening so I researched on the net and find this out. I am a designer and I looooved it, I think creative people love this type of show, who cares if it’s not accurate?? It’s a show, we want to laugh! It was close enough and I hope it comes back, the acting was great too!
I am so sad to hear that “Trust Me” is getting canceld. They have two strong well known main actors and the rest of them all worke well together to make interesting and believable characters. It is such relief to watch something with substance, yet funny and a good, relaxing way to get involved with the plot line and characters’ lives and forget about all of the problems of our own lives right now! I also think it just was not promoted enough; none of my friends had even heard of it. Very few people that I know watch TNT,… Read more »
I never write in to these things. But I feel so strongly about bringing this show back that I’m willing to try anything. Please give this show a chance TNT. It really is much different than the carbon-copy TV programs out there these days.
I saw one of the other posters mention something called Viewer Erosion. I think it is interesting that such a phrase gets coined and those it affects (the networks) do not seem to understand the concept of erosion and why it happens. Erosion occurs when something solid is worn down by constant friction over time. As the solid is worn down, parts of it are lost to the whole, and that which remains is less than it was. Now, apply that to a television audience. Programs that are approached purely from the perspective of ratings are looking at that which… Read more »
I LOVED THIS SHOW!!! I watched every episode! Even when they moved the days and put 2 episodes on because of basketball (that is the “reason” TNT claims of lost viewers!!!). Why say 40 Games in 40 Nights; basketball is still going on 60 days+ later. Anyway BRING THIS SHOW BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I never got into Will and Grace but this SHOW ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LORENZO HAD IT “Well Written and fine acting”!!!!!!!
I’m sorry it’s been cancelled. I liked it and thought it was a bit different because of it’s setting in an ad agency. I enjoyed the characters and thought they worked well together.
I don’t think it was promoted well. Maybe it would have done better if it had been on earlier in the evening.
PLEASE PLEASE DONT CANCELL “TRUST ME”!!!!!!! ONE OF THE BEST MOST INTERESTING SHOW IN A LOOOOONG TIME!!!!!
Thank God!
I work in advertising–have for several years–and I’m astounded at how bad the writing was. The characters were cliche, almost cartoonish. The concepts/campaigns they came up with were laughable. And storyline was sophomoric–had my partner been bumped to CD, I would’ve been thrilled for him. Why? Because I was his partner and our ideas would then have a chance.
I’m sure some people will miss this show. I sincerely doubt too many of them work in advertising.
It was well written with fine acting…but the dolts want to watch “reality tv….the biggest loser etc…what a shame.
Oh nooooo….say it’s not true. Cancelled? I am in advertising and this show had the industry down to “T”. Let’s hope another network will pick it up.
Trust Me was a great show. I really hope another network picks it up and does a better job of promoting it than TNT did.
