Tuesday, September 24, 2013 ratings — Premieres: Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, The Goldbergs, Trophy Wife, Lucky 7, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest, and Chicago Fire. New episodes: Dads, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, THe Mindy Project, Whose Line Is It Anyway? Capture, and The Voice. Reruns: Whose Line Is It Anyway?.
It was a very good start for Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD as it tied The Voice for the top spot of the night in the demo. The NBC reality competition was up significantly year-to-year and pulled Chicago Fire way up as well.
According to ABC, SHIELD was their best premiere in four years. The Goldbergs benefited from the strong lead-in and significantly outperformed Dancing with the Stars’ demo from a year earlier. Trophy Wife didn’t do as well but was still respectable. Lucky 7 on the other hand did terribly and was way down year-to-year when compared to Private Practice which was already on its last legs at the time. This could be the first cancellation of the season.
The CBS dramas were all down year-to-year but their overall viewership remains impressive. As expected, the FOX sitcoms and the CW shows all took big hits opposite stiffer competition.
† = compared to last season’s premiere.

What were you watching last night? Original network programming, reruns, cable, or something else?
I had a feeling all these comedies the networks were throwing out for us this season were mostly going to flop, so I only watched New Girl and Mindy, which I’ve watched since their beginnings. However, KUDOS to Agents of Shield!! Excellent show, strong young cast, Smartly written and humor at all the right moments should propel it to the top of the heap and bring in that oh-so-coveted demographic these networks are jonesing for these days. I mean there were laugh out loud moments that were very precious to watch! Agents of Shield will do very well, I predict.… Read more »
I wasn’t expecting The Goldbergs to spank New Girl like that. Shield should have a strong season with help from the new Thor movie coming out in a month and a half.
AoS had a very good first episode. More humor than I expected. I really hope it doesn’t fall off from the first episode.
