After four years on the air, ABC has decided to pull the plug on Ugly Betty. There won’t be a fifth season but will longtime fans get a true series finale?
Ugly Betty debuted in 2006 and follows young Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) as she navigates her way through the world of high-fashion, working at the trendy magazine Mode. Others in the cast include Eric Mabius, Tony Plana, Ana Ortiz, Becki Newton, Mark Indelicato, Michael Urie, Vanessa Williams, and Ashley Jensen.
After being a modest hit for its first two seasons, the series’ viewership dropped to an average of eight million viewers and a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demo last year. That would usually put a series “on the bubble” but ABC gave it an early renewal. It was pretty clear that the network wanted to try to keep it going to accumulate more episodes for the syndication package.

The network assigned the series to a Friday night timeslot this season, hoping that the loyal fans would follow it there. Not many did. After cancelling Eastwick, they moved Ugly Betty to a better slot, on Wednesday nights. The ratings haven’t been very good there either.
The show’s fate seemed essentially sealed by Ugly Betty’s syndication deal. While episodes of The Mentalist and NCIS: Los Angeles sold for about $2.2 million each in syndication, Ugly Betty episodes have been licensed to the TV Guide Network for “a low six figures.”
Today, the network and production team made a joint statement, saying, “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

I looovvvveeee Ugly Betty, I’ve watched it since the 1st episode….I agree with a few ppl on here…..maybe do the whole “Betty” thing….would love to see her and Daniel get together and see how they get on living in London….please please please bring it back 🙂

i dont think the producers actually know how ugly Betty managed to touch people and leave an affect on them it was fantastic and i don’t see why they don’t give it a second chance and decide to change a few things now because the ratings were once there and can be there again if they change certain aspects but it is a great show
I need Ugly Betty!!!!! I’m a huge fan of Ugly Betty and it’s not just a funny think to watch just as a pastime it helped me to be more courageous. And I need season 5! A huge please from a fan in Switzerland!
But across the atlantic here in england we all love ugly betty and you are able to realate to the chracters to yourself and i think it’s said to see ugly betty be canceled after 4 great seasons!
I want season 5 pls or at least a film….Daniel is in love with betty.She is starting to live her dream finally…Pls rethink about it.The last episode left us with one conclusion that

I think that they should try a spin off called Betty, because she has lost her classic ugly and is starting out new. She is in London and Daniel came to London showing his signs of feelings for her so they could do i pilot and see how viewers would result to that.

I never heard of ugly betty till about a year ago when I started watching it, I enjoyed every minute of it and I enjoyed all the characters in the show. My friends all enjoy the show as well and want it to come back to the air. You may think that canceling the show was a good decision I believe it wasn’t and the ending of season 4 the final episode makes me want to see what happens next. So hopefully this show will be brought back on the airs because I will surely watch it.
I LOVE Ugly Betty! I can’t enough of the plot line; I am obsessed with her story! This show built enough courage for me to move to NYC. I love the show and each individual characters!!
