After four years on the air, ABC has decided to pull the plug on Ugly Betty. There won’t be a fifth season but will longtime fans get a true series finale?
Ugly Betty debuted in 2006 and follows young Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) as she navigates her way through the world of high-fashion, working at the trendy magazine Mode. Others in the cast include Eric Mabius, Tony Plana, Ana Ortiz, Becki Newton, Mark Indelicato, Michael Urie, Vanessa Williams, and Ashley Jensen.
After being a modest hit for its first two seasons, the series’ viewership dropped to an average of eight million viewers and a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 demo last year. That would usually put a series “on the bubble” but ABC gave it an early renewal. It was pretty clear that the network wanted to try to keep it going to accumulate more episodes for the syndication package.

The network assigned the series to a Friday night timeslot this season, hoping that the loyal fans would follow it there. Not many did. After cancelling Eastwick, they moved Ugly Betty to a better slot, on Wednesday nights. The ratings haven’t been very good there either.
The show’s fate seemed essentially sealed by Ugly Betty’s syndication deal. While episodes of The Mentalist and NCIS: Los Angeles sold for about $2.2 million each in syndication, Ugly Betty episodes have been licensed to the TV Guide Network for “a low six figures.”
Today, the network and production team made a joint statement, saying, “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

I demand a 5th season:( This is so unfair…ive watched this show since 1st episode hoping that one day Daniel and Betty will start liking each other.And thats what the writers and ABC served us???I mean like they can do a lot better than this.This was soo amateure…I AM DISSAPOINTED:(( At least one or two more episodes…
omg u better end this the right way … that wasnt even an ending there is a lot more to watch than just her leaving daniel there at least a kiss or something. come on u have to get a season 5 there is no way in hell that was the end. it was just pathetic i think . i mean i love the show and thats why it cannot end like that its like u told half of the story and now u guys are just gonna stop … its not fair
This is Pathetic! i love ugly betty, i agree, us English love it! And Hello Goodbye, the last episode in season 4 was just such a let down i nearly cried! XD Bring on a fifth season please!
I have just seen the last of season 4 and its so not fair to cancel there is no show like ugly betty around and its really sad to end.
No way! Why cancel it? it does great in England !!!! so bloody unfair England still loves betty! why can’t they do another season in England!! or feature length ep? Daniel and Betty didn’t even kiss!!!

I just love the show ugly betty and i am not saying this because i am just one of the other hunderds fans. i really liked this serie. it was not only about romance and all the other glamour stuff. in all that glamour was a real story which i really liked. i just don’ know why i like ugly betty so much but it’s just i really and i mean it i really feel like i am just in a happy world where nobody can hurt me and i enjoy the drama of betty and i even more enjoy… Read more »

Well, hell yeah!! Ugly Betty must have the next season!! I’ve been waiting for Daniel to realize that he had feelings with Betty so it would be nice if we all know what will happen to them both on the 5th season. I was hoping for it… so please a new season!!
u need to promovate the sow more…I heard about ugly betty from internet.I leave in romania and my frends haven heard about…but this is great…the best show that I”v seen.
Really that’s how you are going to end the show. That ending was only a tease that you would change the name to Betty, and cotinue in London. If you really wanted to end this good , you should have had Daniel open to his feelings for her. There is still so much of a story, at least 1 more season then end it. Very disapionted in abc n the writters, I have been a loyal watcher of the show since day one. I am so tiered or reality shows when good shows with real talent get canceled leave crap… Read more »
This all is very upsetting…. I was really hoping for a 5th season especially since the season finale was a let down! what? thats it? i”ve never even seen eastwick or ncis la what kind of ******** is this? ABC should really reconsider!
