Move over Outlaw, NBC has cancelled another new series. The spy dramedy Undercovers is ending its run after 13 episodes.
Undercovers revolves around a married pair of former spies who are pulled back into service after their close friend goes missing. The TV show features the talents of Boris Kodjoe, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mekia Cox, Carter MacIntyre, Gerald McRaney, and Ben Schwartz.
The series stumbled right out of the gate and attracted a disappointing 2.1 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic and 8.7 million viewers. In week two, the demo fell by 24% to a 1.6 rating and the numbers essentially kept on falling. Last night’s episode hit a new demo low with a 1.3 rating and 5.913 million total viewers.
Though NBC ordered four additional scripts in mid-October, the studio suspected that that show’s been doomed for quite awhile. Today, the network made it official — Undercovers has been cancelled.
It remains to be seen if fans of the series will get to see all 13 installments. Seven episodes have aired so far and three more are scheduled for November 10th, November 17th, and December 1st. NBC has a Shrek holiday special scheduled for Thanksgiving eve (November 24th) and The Sing-Off will take over the timeslot on December 8th.
Three episodes of Undercovers will be left on the shelf at that point and the network will decide at a later date if or when they’ll air.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that Undercovers is coming to an end? Why do you think it didn’t catch on? How would you have fixed it?

I am so disappointed in NBC and their apparent lack of adequate ratings for “Undercovers”. This is not the first time they have canceled shows at a whim by not giving them enough time air and garner TV viewers. This is one of the first spy thriller/James Bond”ish” shows to come along in a great while that has it all! I guess NBC is positioning themselves as the “garbage pit” of TV programming. How sad.
This show was too sophisticated and slick for the majority of viewers, who would prefer something that caters to the unlettered and barely washed.
I am so disappointed from the cancellation of this show. I thought this was a good show that anyone could relate to. I love the characters that were chosen and I love that they were able to speak in different languages. Well, maybe if it were a “reality” show of some sort then it would have survived and those are the shows that really should be taken off the air. Those reality shows are all garbage. I hope another network will pick it up.
I to hate that Undercovers was cancelled. I feel that great shows which feature African-Americans in an intelligent light are always cancelled. Plus I for. One am very tired of seeing African-Americans as pimps, prostitutes, or gangsters. It is funny how those shows have great ratings. Maybe another network will pick this series up so that it may continue. I loved it.
This is a shame! Each episode was like a really good spy thriller with lots of romance and clever lines…esp by their tech assistant. The acting, sets, wardrobe, etc. it was all good. I have picked many winners and was certain this would continue for years. There is so much junk on tv and then a good series comes on and gets CANCELLED! Unbelievable! (and I have some professional background with tv,film, reviewing, etc.)
Thats why I don’t watch primetime. I only watch primetime
for ONLY: 187 abc, L&O SVU nbc, and House fox, I don’t
perfer to have my tv on those channel’s longer than an hour. oh and
CSI, the original ONLY. other than that I don’t tune in. I watch
cable. Love TNT, for now at least.
Why oh why. this is a great show. My husband and I enjoyed
it immensely.
I completely AGREE with the folks who said it should NOT have been cancelled! My husband and I recorded it every week and looked forward to watching to see what kind of “trouble” they would get into and out of each week. I also agree with the person who said networks don’t give shows a chance to develop a following. We are not in the “desired” demographic, but we count too. So disappointed that it’s been cancelled. Also agree with the person who hopes another station will pick it up. Medium is a great example of that happening. Dare we… Read more »
Undercovers was such a good show. I really hate when they do not give shows enough time to develop. I tuned in every Wednesday night @7pm to watch my shows back to back: Undercovers, Law & Order SVU, & Law & Order Los Angeles. This sucks so bad. I wonder if more people spoke out about it they would bring it back.
damn! THAT WAS A SMOOTH SHOW. WISH IT WAS ON THE AIR
It was one of many spy shows on Television. It was a little raunchy and leading on a uncultural path. In short like raising the bar it sucked. My favorite is burn notice it’s real with no unnecessary sex and love paths. I am black by the way and think undercovers was unnecessary still.
I am so sorry to see Undercovers is cancelled; I don’t think they gave it a fair amount of time to increase it’s audience base. What a shame.
WHY!! Are you kidding me? Perhaps CBS can pick it up, like the Medium! I guess they know what a good show is.UNBELIEVBLE!
WHY!!! its such a good show! why is it getting cancelled? so disappointed!
Undercovers is an excellent show! I am terribly disappointed that it has been cancelled. I anxiously awaited its debut and watched it faithfully every week. In fact, I recorded it. I do hope it will be placed in a better time slot even so I would watch it at 8pm. It has phenomenally talented actors, not to mention extremely attractive lead characters. The locations are breathtaking. I am also impressed by their ability to speak multiple languages.
