CBS is changing their plans for Golden Boy and Vegas, the network’s two Tuesdays at 10pm series. Golden Boy was supposed to air twice on Tuesday nights before shifting to Fridays for the remainder of its season. Vegas would then return on March 19th.
Now, the network has decided to keep Golden Boy on Tuesdays and is shipping Vegas to Friday nights instead, starting April 5th (once basketball coverage has finished). An episode of Golden Boy will still air tomorrow night, as originally scheduled.
Neither show has been a success for the network but Golden Boy lost very little steam in week two so they may see it as a better bet than Vegas.
Though it’s seemed unlikely that Vegas would be renewed for a second season, a change in scheduling could end up helping the series survive. If Vegas can maintain about the same ratings on Friday nights, it could end up being a viable replacement for venerable CSI: NY. It’s also a good match with Blue Bloods.
The last few episodes of Vegas drew a 1.5 demo rating while CSI: NY’s attracted just a 1.2 in the demo.
Here’s the press release from CBS:
CBS’s NEW DRAMA “Golden Boy” TO REMAIN IN TUESDAY, 10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT TIME PERIOD
An Original “Golden Boy” Will Air This Friday as Previously Scheduled
“Vegas” Moves to Friday, 9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT, Effective April 5
Golden Boy, CBS’s new drama about the meteoric rise of an ambitious cop who becomes the youngest police commissioner in the history of New York City, will remain on Tuesdays (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT), after two special previews in the time period.
CBS previously announced that Golden Boy would move to Friday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) after the preview broadcasts on Feb. 26 and March 3. An original episode of Golden Boy will still air this first Friday (March 8) at 9:00 PM, ET/PT as planned.
CBS will give the freshman drama Vegas a look in a new time period, moving it to Friday (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) beginning April 5, following the Network’s coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament.
In its two Tuesday broadcasts, GOLDEN BOY is winning its time period in viewers and key demographics, averaging 9.98 million viewers, 2.6/07 in adults 25-54 and 1.7/05 in adults 18-49.
GOLDEN BOY stars Theo James, Chi McBride, Kevin Alejandro, Bonnie Somerville, Holt McCallany and Stella Maeve. Greg Berlanti and Emmy Award winner Nicholas Wootton are executive producers for Warner Bros. Television.
Vegas stars Dennis Quaid, Michael Chiklis, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jason O’Mara, Taylor Handley and Sarah Jones. Greg Walker, Nicholas Pileggi, Cathy Konrad, Arthur Sarkissian and James Mangold are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.
What do you think? Is this good or bad news for Vegas? How about for Golden Boy?
My wife and I love this and definitely hope that it will remain on TV
We love Vegas and we want it to stay. We watched The Golden Boy, but we still prefer Vegas. We’re happy to read that Vegas will start again on April 5th.
Vegas is a classy show!. The network moved it to Friday nights to see if it can perform there well enough to replace CSI NY. Which I also enjoy and will miss. CSI NY is doomed for sure. And that may save Vegas as the suits have a ready replacement for it. Golden Boy has done better than vegas on Tuesday night so vegas will not be going back there. It’s only hope is to do well on Fridays. It would be shame to cancel this show though , as it’s really addictive and the characters and setting are exotic… Read more »
We were very upset when Vegas was bounced for the mediocre Golden Boy. Bring it back to Tuesday – we won’t give up Blue Bloods to watch Vegas, but will enjoy seeing it back on Tuesday (where it belongs).
Don’t know were CBS exects. Are getting their enfo. But everyone I talk to can’t believe Vegas has been gone this long & replaced with another cop show expecially one so unbelievable. I watched the first one and switched channels before it ended, it’s silly. Vegas brings memories of old Vegas and shows younger fans how it once was. I know , I started visiting Vegas about the time mob guys suposedly faded away if they really did, to me that’s part of the excitement. Please, CBS I can’t believe you don’t see this show as a gold mine, leave it… Read more »

Vegas yes yes I was mad when it went off and Golden Boy ug came on. In this household we want Vegas.
Please do not cancel “Vegas”. It is a good show and should be given a chance!
Thanks.
Please do not cancel “Vegas”. It is a good show and one that should stay on the air — whether on Tuesdays or Fridays.
Wow. These execs are so dumb. Here’s what I know. It’ called the age of technology and DVR. I can watch one, tape another, and another, and watch it later. Or vice-versa. The Golden Boy show is not that good. Vegas is finally a show for adults with everything in it, and they want to cancel it. I am tired of TV being all about these reality shows and what they think is the age-rating. If they would put on more shows for really intelligent adults, maybe their rating would go up.
SO AGREE….
Vegas is a good show. It has a good cast, a good story line, a great setting and is an overall refreshing entertaining show. Once you get into the characters the show becomes addicting. If you have to take something off the air why not Survivor ?
CBS get real for a change. You have stupid Survivor on forever and you want to replace Vegas with another cop show. How old are your executives? 13! sometimes adults like to watch a show for adults after all its adults spending the money on the products advertised. Please keep this show on.
Truly, I hope they leave VEGAS on, doesn’t matter which night. \Its a wonderful show, something we don’t much of anymore. Thanks
I love this show. Most shows on tv are not worth watching but I’m hooked on this show. Please don’t take it off the air. It was just getting good and now they want to change time slots. What the heck is CBS thinking?
I enjoy the series Vegas. It’s not only a very good TV series, but it is also educational/historical. Dennis Quaid is not only an extremely good actor, he also brings a sense of realism to his character and the show. Today’s TV is full of so-called reality and poorly written shows. We need a show like Vegas to bring back good TV. We need Vegas, it deserves another season.
I know plenty of people including me who all love Vegas. This show has some one for everyone. Dennis Quaid for the one who all love the 70’s! Taylor Handley how can I put him into words? Oh yes good looking, cramming, and a really great actor. Not to even mention the girls for the boys out there. I think that Vegas should NOT be cancelled but be given another season. This show is so great! I love how it is set in 1960s. You do not see anything like this on the television anymore. Now all you can see… Read more »
