Vikings will pillage and plunder for at least another season. Deadline reports the History TV show has been renewed for a fifth season.
It’s also been announced Jonathan Rhys Meyers will join the season five cast.
The renewal is a little bit surprising. Though History added four more episodes to season four of the historical drama, the current season has not performed well in the ratings. Only four episodes in, season four is averaging just around 2.1 million viewers per episode. For comparison, season three averaged around 2.45 million.
Despite the middling ratings, History has ordered 20 episodes for the fifth season, which is set to premiere in 2017.
What do you think? Do you watch Vikings? Are you enjoying season four so far?
I love the show but typically watch it after it has aired, on Amazon.
Do not cancel this show. Enjoyable and informative.

I’m not gonna lie, I was devasted by Ragnar death. But I kept watching and I absolutely love Ivar The Boneless! He is very characteristic… I wanted to see more interaction with Ivar and Ragnar. But I have never missed an episode and I still love this show. I will watch until it no longer airs and then I’ll watch all over! It’s a great show!!
Great series, has a lot on the way of thinking of the Vikings, their adventurous nature and religion. Glad the series been renewed for another season.
Love this saga! Great characters, great story line.
Definitely want to journey along.
Absolutely hooked on this dramatic historical piece of work, what a wonderful way to learn our history. Please make more series!
This is a most interesting and historic story about the Viking who settled much of England, Ireland, Scotland not to mention Europe as a whole. Although it may be a hollywood movie type, the stories are quite consistent with historic events.
It is too bad more people do not watch it to understand how savage and warlike history really was.
