Vikings will pillage and plunder for at least another season. Deadline reports the History TV show has been renewed for a fifth season.
It’s also been announced Jonathan Rhys Meyers will join the season five cast.
The renewal is a little bit surprising. Though History added four more episodes to season four of the historical drama, the current season has not performed well in the ratings. Only four episodes in, season four is averaging just around 2.1 million viewers per episode. For comparison, season three averaged around 2.45 million.
Despite the middling ratings, History has ordered 20 episodes for the fifth season, which is set to premiere in 2017.

I stopped watching when they got rid of Ragnar. What a dumb decision that was.
They lost me when they decided to have Lagertha shoot Aslaug in the back like a petty coward and now since have been trying to pass that off as “girl power” and “taking what is hers” on social media. In addition, Lagertha hasn’t aged. I’ve been done with the show for awhile. As have many people it seems with the drop on ratings. Sad, as I was really enjoying the story.

I’m very happy that History has decided to renew Vikings for another season.
Got turned on to the series just a couple of months ago but I’ve been enjoying very much and can’t wait for the new shows.
I love “Vikings”. Sad that Ragnar has been cut out of the show. I watched for him but still a big fan. Please don’t cancel it.

Loss of Ragnar was huge! Extreme depravity and evil undertones stayed in my mind the next day. Will no longer watch.
