NBC is done with Welcome to Sweden according to executive producer and star Greg Poehler. He broke the news today via Instagram (see below).
On Welcome to Sweden, a former money manager to the stars (Poehler) decides to follow his Swedish love (Josephine Bornebusch) when she decides to move back to her native country. It’s a big culture shock for him and he does his best to win over her unusual family. The rest of the cast includes Lena Olin, Claes Månsson, Patrick Duffy, Illeana Douglas, Christopher Wagelin, and Per Svensson. Guests this season include Amy Poehler, Aubrey Plaza, Neve Campbell, Jason Priestley, Jack Black, and Paul Simon.
The sitcom drew low ratings last summer but the network picked it up for another season, thanks in part to the show already being renewed in Sweden.
This year, the ratings have been truly terrible. NBC will fill the Sunday timeslot with episodes of Hollywood Game Night. It’s unclear what will become of the remaining six episodes of Sweden.
What do you think? Do you like Welcome to Sweden? Do you think that it should have been cancelled? Would you have watched the remaining episodes — or a third season?
We loved this show and looked forward to it every Sunday!! Really one of the best things on T.V. as everything else is pure junk and a waste of time. This was refreshing and intelligent. Too bad ignorant Americans don’t know how to read subtitles let alone learn another language fluently. I hope the show continues on in Sweden and Europe as is is very charming as well as humorous. Good work Greg! You are a very talented and funny guy and I wish the best for you in the future. Sorry NBC, we are so over your lame and… Read more »
I’m totally disappointed! I loved WTS! Bring it back! I can’t believe that insanely stupid shows continue to come back season after season I.e. Housewives of …Every city in the USA CSI’s and the list goes on…yet u cancel something so unique and fun! I may boycott your station from this point on!
It was delightful. We laughed and quoted those silly lines for days after each episode. Naturally, it was doomed. Anything we truly enjoy and gives us joy gets cancelled.
I am so disappointed that the show didn’t at least finish up the second season. There are so many horrible shows on t.v., including on NBC. This show was fantastic. It wasn’t given the proper chance to succeed. The second season should have been aired. Instead, garbage is replacing it. I shouldn’t be too surprised by that because so many people like garbage instead of a high quality show like “Welcome To Sweden”. Why can’t the show continue on in Sweden? Didn’t it have better ratings there? I would have loved the see the wedding between Emma ad Bruce at… Read more »
This show was very entertaining, sorry it was canceled. How disappointing to take it off the air without showing the final episodes.
Good. Who Needs more of The World According to Hollyweird, and the Liberal., The USA Sucks, but I’ll gladly take the money Crap.
Censorship sux. It killed this show. Nothing wrong with using a ratings/warning system to give viewers a CHOICE whether to watch a show with some scatology in it or not.
After all, Hobo & Skinemax do quite well uncensored.
The whitewashed version of WTS shown by NBC was simply not too funny, & viewers stayed away in droves, ensuring its doom.

SCREW INSTAGRAM!
Wanted to tell him I appreciated his work. Maybe he will read it here.
Oh no! What will Pat Duffy do?
This was a great and funny show. I didn’t mind the captions. So sorry to see it gone, but, I will watch the remaining shows where I can. Too bad NBC, you don’t have an intelligent brain in your collective executive heads. Must have gotten whacked in the head on some of those shows where people fall off platforms and get hit by foam bats. Dummies.
Of course the ratings were craptastically low, WTF was NBC thinking airing this dry, droll comedy on Sunday nights? What a pack of morons.
Those who watched the NBC broadcast might not know this but they were actually watching a censored version, the series was actually much raunchier. Think something like It’s always sunny in philadelphia FX broadcast vs syndication broadcast, fact is viewers got a watered down version. Greg said it best and that is thank god we live in this age where we have the internet and can watch the episodes in their uncensored format.
I used to watch almost everything NBC put on the air, especially comedies. Not anymore. Welcome to Sweden was the last peacock show I was following after Parks & Rec ended. NBC is the worst when it comes to how it treats its viewers. It seems they never give shows a chance. I understand it’s a business, but how do pull a show in the middle of season 2? It’s bad enough when a show simply doesn’t get renewed, therefore not giving creators a chance to provide some closure, but why would viewers keep coming back to your station if… Read more »
I didn’t even know this show existed, and I watch NBC a lot. Ninja Warrior, AGT, Blacklist, etc. Of course ratings are going to be bad if you don’t advertise it… Idiots.
To bad it was amusing, the brother was great!
