Hallmark has ordered When Hope Calls, a spin-off series based on Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart TV show (which returns on February 24th). The new series will launch sometime in August 2019 and revolve around characters introduced in the recent When Calls the Heart: The Greatest Christmas Blessing movie.
If you want to watch the new series, it sounds like you’ll need to subscribe to the Hallmark Movies Now streaming service. The service costs $6 a month and subscribers have access to Hallmark movies and TV series like Cedar Cove, Heartland, Chesapeake Shores, and Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Interestingly, it doesn’t appear that the When Calls the Heart series is available through the service.
Here’s the announcement about When Hope Calls:
HALLMARK MOVIES NOW’S FIRST ORIGINAL SERIES ‘WHEN HOPE CALLS’ PREMIERES AUGUST 2019
Spin-off of Hallmark Channel’s Beloved Series “When Calls the Heart” to Debut on Hallmark Movies Now“When Hope Calls,” Crown Media Family Networks’ first-ever streaming series, will premiere August 2019 on Hallmark Movies Now, the network’s digital streaming service. The series is spawned from Hallmark Channel’s longest-running, most-watched primetime series to date, “When Calls the Heart,” currently entering its sixth season. The announcement was made today as part of Crown Media Family Networks’ bi-annual Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.
“‘When Hope Calls’ embodies the same heartfelt themes of community, family and faith that have resonated so strongly with ‘When Calls the Heart’ fans over the past six years. This is another series that viewers are sure to treasure,” said Michelle Vicary, Executive Vice President, Programming and Network Publicity, Crown Media Family Networks. “The series rounds out the experience we are offering loyal viewers in 2019. Along with our linear networks, publishing and podcast platforms, our SVOD service is another way to enjoy the original content our brand is known for,” Vicary concluded.
“When Hope Calls” follows Lillian (Morgan Kohan) and Grace (Jocelyn Hudon), sisters who were orphaned and raised very differently, as they reunite as adults and open an orphanage in a small Northwest town in the early 1900s. The town and its people are on the cusp of change, transitioning from the simple times of the horse and buggy to the more modern times of cars and technology. The characters were introduced in the 2018 ratings record-breaker, “When Calls the Heart: The Greatest Christmas Blessing.”
Hallmark Movies Now launched in October 2017. Subscribers to the service have access to a robust library of content not available on Crown Media Family Network’s linear channels, with new programming available every week. Hallmark Movies Now is available on iOS, Android, Roku and Amazon Fire, among other devices. The SVOD service is also now available over the Internet on both Comcast’s Xfinity X1 and Cox’s Contour platforms.
What do you think? Do you plan to check out the When Hope Calls series if it means subscribing to the Hallmark Movies Now service to see it? Are you already a subscriber? Do you like it?
While I enjoy and look forward to each season of When Calls the Heart I am not willing to pay additional fees to see a spin off. As others have written, enough is enough.
I no longer watch When Calls The Heart. I was one of the few that could not get over Jack’s death. I watched for years waiting for the two to get together and when they do, that is it, gone! I would have accepted the role being recast but they changed the show for me forever. I hope the shows continue but not with me as a viewer.
I already subscribe to the service and find this new series an added bonus! I’m excited to have another series with characters to love during the season break of WCTH. I’m counting on S7 coming in 2020!! Hallmark knows a winning series which is growing with each episode!
I will not pay $6 a month to stream another channel. But do hope to continue to see When Calls The Heart on my regular Hallmark channel. Very sorry Lising left the show.
I won’t be paying to watch. I already pay for satellite, Netflix, that’s enough! I love these shows but it’s a no go for me☹️
Our family will pay the $6. It will be well worth it I’m sure!!
No I pay too much for cable and am a faithful hallmark movies watcher. Please put it on the hallnark channel too. So unfair to have yet another service for a show that looks so good. Reconsider, thank you.
No I will not subscribe! If I didn’t have to pay for cable to be able to watch anything on hallmark then I would consider it. We are already on a fixed income and very tight budget and our cable is next on the list to go soon
Same here! I pay enough for cable and don’t get that many channels that I watch. I am on a fixed income also! So much trash on cable ! Enjoy Hallmark so much but I can’t understand why we must start paying for it!
I’m so disappointed that this spinoff won’t be available on the Hallmark Channel. I already pay a lot for cable, so I can’t pay more . I think the new show would be more successful on the Hallmark Channel. Your viewers are being drained dry by having to pay more for new shows, and it’s unfair. If you want to keep your faithful audience, all your shows should be available at no extra charge. Extra streaming services are a ripoff!
Put very well.
No, I pay enough for cable.
I love the Hallmark channel and all the movies! When Calls The Heart is one of my favorites. I was looking forward to the new series. However, I will not be paying for streaming. I already pay for cable. please reconsider for your fans.
No, I will not watch if it’s streaming. I don’t understand streaming & already pay quite a bit more to have the 2 Hallmark channels. Please reconsider & put it on a regular channel
I already pay enough for cable, so I won’t be subscribing.
Hello I love the Hallmarks movie channels what I’m trying to understand is why WOULD Hallmarks write Jack out of the Show AFTER all the trouble they had and they finally married it make no sense to me they were truly a love story that what made the whole show all of the cast I love everybody’s
The actor wanted to leave the show. It was never their plan to write him out of the series.
I love Hallmark and watch all the movies but I can’t afford to pay anything more for my cable service. You have to pay for a premium package to get Hallmark to begin with. I don’t even watch the other stations. I would not pay more.
I love the hallmark channel and when calls the heart but I’m with everyone else I don’t think that we should have to pay for something we all are paying too much for already. I think it’s totally wrong to deprive all of us that love the series.!!!
