Hallmark has ordered When Hope Calls, a spin-off series based on Hallmark Channel’s When Calls the Heart TV show (which returns on February 24th). The new series will launch sometime in August 2019 and revolve around characters introduced in the recent When Calls the Heart: The Greatest Christmas Blessing movie.
If you want to watch the new series, it sounds like you’ll need to subscribe to the Hallmark Movies Now streaming service. The service costs $6 a month and subscribers have access to Hallmark movies and TV series like Cedar Cove, Heartland, Chesapeake Shores, and Signed, Sealed, Delivered. Interestingly, it doesn’t appear that the When Calls the Heart series is available through the service.
Here’s the announcement about When Hope Calls:
HALLMARK MOVIES NOW’S FIRST ORIGINAL SERIES ‘WHEN HOPE CALLS’ PREMIERES AUGUST 2019
Spin-off of Hallmark Channel’s Beloved Series “When Calls the Heart” to Debut on Hallmark Movies Now“When Hope Calls,” Crown Media Family Networks’ first-ever streaming series, will premiere August 2019 on Hallmark Movies Now, the network’s digital streaming service. The series is spawned from Hallmark Channel’s longest-running, most-watched primetime series to date, “When Calls the Heart,” currently entering its sixth season. The announcement was made today as part of Crown Media Family Networks’ bi-annual Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour.
“‘When Hope Calls’ embodies the same heartfelt themes of community, family and faith that have resonated so strongly with ‘When Calls the Heart’ fans over the past six years. This is another series that viewers are sure to treasure,” said Michelle Vicary, Executive Vice President, Programming and Network Publicity, Crown Media Family Networks. “The series rounds out the experience we are offering loyal viewers in 2019. Along with our linear networks, publishing and podcast platforms, our SVOD service is another way to enjoy the original content our brand is known for,” Vicary concluded.
“When Hope Calls” follows Lillian (Morgan Kohan) and Grace (Jocelyn Hudon), sisters who were orphaned and raised very differently, as they reunite as adults and open an orphanage in a small Northwest town in the early 1900s. The town and its people are on the cusp of change, transitioning from the simple times of the horse and buggy to the more modern times of cars and technology. The characters were introduced in the 2018 ratings record-breaker, “When Calls the Heart: The Greatest Christmas Blessing.”
Hallmark Movies Now launched in October 2017. Subscribers to the service have access to a robust library of content not available on Crown Media Family Network’s linear channels, with new programming available every week. Hallmark Movies Now is available on iOS, Android, Roku and Amazon Fire, among other devices. The SVOD service is also now available over the Internet on both Comcast’s Xfinity X1 and Cox’s Contour platforms.
What do you think? Do you plan to check out the When Hope Calls series if it means subscribing to the Hallmark Movies Now service to see it? Are you already a subscriber? Do you like it?
I’m very upset I already pay for hallmark heartland package was really excited to watch only to find out it won’t be airing in any of these channels not fair ti loyal customers and fans of hallmark they need to reconsider
I’m insulted!
So disappointed. Was looking forward to watching this but I get very bad WiFi so it will be a waste. The only reading I have cable is to watch Hallmark. Now you are wanting us to pay for streaming
I definitely choose not to subscribe to another channel. I currently pay for a larger package just to get Hallmark Channel and, unfortunately, cannot afford anything more. I’m surprised that Hallmark would advertise this as a spinoff to When Calls The Heart and not make it available to those currently following the series on Hallmark Channel.
I find it distasteful for Hallmark to be trying to force us to pay for another way to watch their programming. We already pay for Hallmark channels. My Mom is also a devoted WCTH fan and would have no means to an app. If they wanted to increase their subscribers on the app they should have done it with something unrelated to an already famous show in my opinion. I just feel this is unfair. They could have just worked the storylines into WCTH and made it a longer series. That or simply put it on one of our already… Read more »
I’m wondering if when hope calls will be sold on DVD like when calls the heart.?
Tonie Osborne I also will not pay for another Channel as I already pay for Hallmark Drama & Mysteries! This is a awful way to do Hearties and thank you Lori Loughlin for nothing!
I agree with Tonie. Also Hallmark needs to get some more quality programming. The love stories where someone meets, falls in love, breaks up and then gets back together is boring. You have a good audience you should work harder to keep it. Charging more isn’t The answer. BJ Zeagler

I already pay extra to have the Hallmark channel,,, I won’t pay for this new series
Disappointed. I would love to watch it but I’m not paying to subscribe to one more thing. Cable and Netflix should be enough!
Hallmark already has a host of fans. Why would you choose to produce another good series and not make it available to these fans? Disappointed.
I am very sad to hear that you chose to use streaming to show your new series my cable is expensive enough I pay almost 100. a month to watch what limited channels I have and I cannot afford to pay for extra internet service just to watch a show that could have been on your Hallmark channel. Please reconsider and put it on TV. Thank You and I really do like the show. It’s just a shame one person can mess it up for so many.
Unfortunately no. I would love to watch it, but cable is expensive enough with premium channels like hallmark. I can’t pay more to add the streaming service even though I would like to. Hallmark is my go to for safe programming.
Carol…No I am sorry if I have to pay for “another” subscription I will simply find something else to watch.
I pay for my DISH already. I see no reason to pay to subscribe to a network that already has a channel on my DISH. Can you spell GREEDY?
I pay $150.00 per month for cable. I have to pay extra to get Hallark and HMM channels. I am sick and tired of you greedy cable channels putting your hand in my pocket. So, easy solution, I just canceled the “upgrade” that includes your channels. The worst part…you don’t care.
I’m weaning myself off When Calls.
The Hallmark company is becoming greedy. I love Hallmark series and movies, but will not pay any additional fees. I currently get Hallmark channel and Hallmark Mystery & Movie channel.
