With October Road and Men in Trees now cancelled, ABC seems to be on a killing spree — not unlike the “Kiss-Me-Not” killer on Women’s Murder Club. With that in mind, it makes sense that Murder Club would be the network’s next casualty.
ABC’s Women’s Murder Club, based on the popular James Patterson books, debuted on October 12, 2007. Viewer and critical reception was mixed. Almost 11 million viewers tuned in for the series premiere but as few as eight million returned for later episodes. More importantly, the TV show’s percentage of the 18-49 demographic dropped as well. The show typically skews older which is essentially a sin in TV ratings.
After the writers strike finished, it looked like Murder Club was done but ABC decided to give it another chance. They fired the show’s executive producers, hired new ones and order three additional episodes to complete the season. The series then returned to primetime after a three month absence. Unfortunately, the numbers didn’t get any better.
The crime drama has now been officially cancelled but, fortunately for fans, they’ll get to see all of the produced episodes. Episode 13, titled “Never Tell”, is scheduled to air tomorrow night. Will the “Kiss-Me-Not” killer be brought to justice by the time the series ends? Stay tuned!
I loved this show, I can’t believe they cancelled this but kept WIFE SWAP!!! Seriously, would people really rather watch animosity forced upon families or a well written show with a good cast? I agree with the comment that it was hard to find, especially with the writers strike, but I watched it every week along with my mom. BRING IT BACK ABC!!
Please bring Women’s Murder Club back!! I love the show and I’m under 18!!! It was one of three shows I watched regularly. It is an amazing show!!!!
Someone pick up this series. UPN, USA, TNT anyone… I’d rather watch you than ABC anyway!
I want this show to come back!!!! It was my “get-away”, my “fantasy world”. I would put the kids to bed then get comfortable on my couch with a glass of wine and watch. I will have to find another show…but I know it won’t be on this station unless they bring it back!!!
BRING WOMEN’S MURDER CLUB BACK!!!!!!
I can’t believe this show was cancelled. I was just wondering why I had not seen it on and decided to look it up. I had no idea! I am so disappointed. I was just getting into it. This show was my CSI. Sucks!!!
Women’s Murder Club was the olny ABC show that I watched, since it has been cancelled I only watch CBS and some of the cable channels.
I am absolutely devastated by the cancellation of this fabulous program. I will truly miss the characters each Friday night. This was truly the Cagney & Lacey of the new century. So sad to it dismissed with such cowardness for ratings.
I’m very upset that Women’s Murder Club was cancelled. Very poor choice by ABC. Not only was this show up against a tough schedule, but the stories written by James Patterson are just great. What the heck is wrong with these people. The cast was outstanding. Should be given another chance on a different day and I bet your ratings are completely different.
This was one of my favorite shows last season and I am in the target demographic. The book series is great and I loved Angie Harmon in the TV series. It was the only thing I liked on ABC – big dummies.
Counldn’t agree more with the comments I read. Isn’t Friday night a tough night for ratings overall? I’l like to know the viewership on CBS and NBC on Fridays. Personally, we continue to make the channel move to TNT, USA, SHOWTIME, etc., because those networks are really putting out some darn good show, along with 75% of our DVR recording ! Big fan of James Patterson, really enjoyed the show! Maybe it will come back as a mid-season filler. But, I just read Mr. Patterson’s “Michael Bennett” character from Step on a Crack is in development for fa future show,… Read more »
murder club was one of the best t v showes on t v all you have on tv now is crap..
ABC – shame on you. This series could have had the pulling/staying power of a Law and Order……….you goofed and didn’t even have the courage to announce the cancellation on your web site!
I agree wtih people here. Three of my favorite shows cancelled, now there is no reason to watch abc. CBS and NBC here I come!
This show was SO much fun to watch. Shame on you ABC….. Whatever momentum this should could have had or gained back was derailed by the writer’s strike. Then you gave them two episodes and called it good? Bad move. At the start of last season, you became my favorite network – so many great shows. Now I don’t enjoy or connect with any of your shows……
