Despite a 30% drop in the ratings, CBS chose to renew its Zoo TV show for a third season, rather than cancel it. Can the network turn things around and regain some audience, or will this summer TV series go the way of the Dodo? Will Zoo be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned.
A CBS drama thriller based on the James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge novel, Zoo, stars James Wolk as zoologist Jackson Oz. The cast also includes Kristen Connolly, Nonso Anozie, Billy Burke, Alyssa Diaz, Josh Salatin, and Gracie Dzienny. After noticing animals behaving strangely during the African safaris he conducts, Oz and his team work to figure out the reason behind it. Meanwhile, the animals assaults become more cunning, coordinated, and ferocious.
Season three of Zoo opens in the year 2027. Thanks to the sterility issue, the human population is still diminishing. Meanwhile, hybrids pose a new threat. This relentless force of lab-created creatures is determined to wipe humans off the face of the earth. Although the team members have grown alienated from each other over the last ten years, Jackson, Jamie (Connolly), Abraham (Anozie), Dariela (Diaz), and Logan (Salatin) have to get past their differences and reunite when they learn that Mitch (Burke) is alive. They must stop the hybrids and their enigmatic creator – someone with a connection to their past.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
9/22 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Zoo averaged a 0.74 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.453 million total viewers.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like the Zoo TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a fourth season on CBS?
10/23/17 update: CBS has cancelled the Zoo TV show after three seasons. Details here.
ZOO is a confused, badly acted , dumb mess that should be cancelled!
I used to be so good but now its just bad. Think the science doesnt work and is not even based on science. Ask yourself who would make these animals, and kill off all humans? The people doing it would have to live here to?
When it was a virus affecting animals it was good and believable, but now it’s just poop
I thought season one was spectacular. Season two was fairly alright… enough so that I wanted to continue watching it into its third season. But, so far in its third season, I have lost all direction as to who is going where to accomplish what. It feels as though the writers are trying to cram so much into their episodes that once the finished product oozes out of the blender, it is nothing more than an incomprehensible mess. While watching the August 24, 2017 episode, about 30 minutes into it, I realized that I had no idea what any single… Read more »
Well same vote as you people think you guys acting crazy they renewed it many more seasons to come. I love it glad brought back Chloe and Mitch this season.
This is my favorite summer show. But I would watch it if it aired during the regular seasons as well. I really hope it gets a 4th season. I love the cast. They make a great ensemble and Billy Burke is just an amazing actor. Loved him in Revolution.
Love the show!! Needs to be renewed!!!!!!
I love Zoo. My whole family watches it and we have the series on dvd. We want more seasons of Zoo!!
My whole family loves this show! It creates a lot of decisions on science topics. And, being that I have three girls. I love seeing that!
The best on tv right now….. We want so much more…… Love “Zoo”
Zoo should stay on for far more series as the problems and dilemmas that happen on the show keep it going so I think zoo should keep going
I think Zoo is a fantastic show and have seen every single episode. I can’t wait for the next show to air. I truly hope CBS continues to renew this show. I LOVE IT!!!
Zoo should definitely be renewed. Hybrid animals that cause volcanoes to erupt, a pyscho half sister, a wall down the western coast of the USA, a vet who has a device implanted in his brain, an invisible snake. This series is becoming so bizarre that who cares that any of it defies belief. I look forward to each episode. Keep them coming.
It’s hard to find intriguing and interesting shows in the summer. We either get reruns or brain dead so-called reality shows. Zoo brings in drama, adventure and a catch to peak our curiosity. I have enjoyed the storyline so far and would to see it continue. I am concerned about the conflicts within the team. It draws away and makes one worry about the revolving character syndrome that some shows have. That syndrome breaks a lot of shows. There are only two shows I DVR in summer and Zoo is one of them. Please consider renewing it.
For better ratings consider moving it so as not to be opposite The Night Shift, which appears to be popular. Also–I NEVER See promotional material about this program. WHY??
We think there should be a season 4. It holds a lot of promise that it could finish on an upward and interesting story line ending. We very much like the characters, and feel they will get back on track with a well crafted story line guidance ending.
Season 1 and 2 good season 3 rubbish. I can’t empathise with the characters as I did in the first 2 seasons. A huge wall across America but not Mexico or Canada?like so many US series the rest of the world simply doesn’t exist not even their only neighbours, suspension of disbelief suspended.
My whole family has loved this show since the beginning but Season 3 is tanking fast. The whole hybrid direction with new and unpleasant characters is one reason. The most important change, though, is that the core characters actually betray each other — their loyalty was at the heart of the show. The plot is becoming way too complicated, even down to Mitch having something implanted in his brain that makes him kill. They should have made this a limited series that ended with the animal cure. Greed makes too many summer series go on and on.
