Campus Ladies: Oxygen Drops Sitcom

Campus Ladies on OxygenJoan Beamin and Barri Martin, the main characters of Campus Ladies, may have a good time going back to school but their series won’t be returning to the Oxygen channel. The sitcom has been cancelled after two seasons.

Campus Ladies followed the exploits of two 40-something women who enrolled in college and tried to fit in with their younger classmates. Much of the show’s dialogue was improvised which isn’t surprising considering most of the cast are veterans of the respected Groundlings improv group. Guest actors on the series included Jane Kaczmarek (Malcolm in the Middle), Jason Alexander (Seinfeld), Paul Reubens (Pee-wee’s Playhouse), Fred Willard (Roseanne), Sean Hayes (Will & Grace), and Maya Rudolph (City of Angels).

Ladies was co-produced by Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Cheryl Hines and starred Christen Sussin and Carrie Aizley who also co-created the series. The sitcom has run for two seasons and a total of 20 episodes on Oxygen. Its understood that the series was cancelled because season two’s ratings were lower than the freshman year’s — likely due in large part to a drastic timeslot switch to 11pm on Tuesdays.

On his website, series co-star Amir Talai is philosophical about the cancellation and says, “We had a surprising number of fans given that Oxygen almost willfully sabotaged the show. But that too is in the past, and we will move on from that as well. Here too, I have made some friendships and connections that will last for a long time. And for fans of the show, you might be happy to know that Derek [Carter] (Mr. Drew) and I are actually very good friends in real life as well, and the cancellation of the show hasn’t changed that. And BTW, Campus Ladies is definitely coming out on DVD, but I don’t know when.” Stay tuned! TV Series Finale home page

I have been waiting for new episodes and decided to look up the show online. I can not believe you canceled one of the funniest shows that TV ever produced. It was original and come on Oxygen sucks. It really does. You took the one respectable show that you had and canned it. Oh well. Go on sucking.

I’m really sad about the cancellation of Campus Ladies. It was the best comedy show I’ve seen in a long time. Maybe someone will make a movie or two ……

It was one of the funniest shows I have seen in a long time ,the brazillian episodes was beyond hysterical I fell off the couch and almost peed my pants … oxygen is turning into just another crap station !!!

I didn’t get to see the second season because my cable company took away oxygen during its second year run. I’m still waiting for the dvd to come out.

Anybody here fans of Strangers With Candy? If you haven’t seen it, it’s out on dvd. It’s the same premise but in high school. A 40 year old high school dropout ex junkie ***** goes back to school. It’s way darker than campus ladies and it soooo funny.

Campus Ladies was the best sitcome I have ever seen. Hysterical! Whoever cancelled this show is an absolute idiot. I also no longer watch the Oxygern channel.

I was wondering what happened. I didn’t hear this news from last year and wondered why Oxygen had brought it back yet.

The show was the only reason to watch the Oxygen channel. This was, in my opinion, their flagship.

Where is the DVD of this show?

This show was fabulous! I could not believe it when I heard it had been canceled—that would be like hearing the “I Love Lucy” show was canceled after two seasons. What a loss to the world of comedy. Shame on whoever is responsible for canceling this masterpiece—and, hopefully, they have been canceled. As I read former comments, I have to agree with most everyone—Oxygen doesn’t have much going for it. My husband who never watches tv loved it and we made sure we had no other plans when Campus Ladies was on. I no longer watch Oxygen at all and hope that somewhere down the road some smart network will pick up Campus Ladies—that is, if the actors are still willing to do it. If it was promoted correctly and put in a decent time slot, it would definitely be one of the hottest shows of all time and a classic.

What a travesty this isn’t coming back to TV. One of the best shows out there…

Come on, some other network HAS to pick it up since Oxygen was too stupid to hold on to this gem

Campus Ladies is a show that offends everyone equally. I have never laughed so hard in my life. How sad… “It’s sooo hard being a lesbian!!”…

I am also dismayed at the cancellation of this supremely hilarious series. What dipwad at Oxygen made that decision? Maybe they could bring back Campus Ladies and stop playing so many reruns of stupid brainless sh*t like Bridezillas and those other dumbass wedding shows. Who cares about that?

That aside, the person who wrote the article should make sure he/she knows peoples’ names before posting an article. It’s Maya Rudolph, not Randolph, as the article states. That’s rather insulting, I’m sure to her, but also to me. I’m a big fan of hers.

Editor: Thanks for the correction. It was a simple typo. No slight was intended.

OMG!!!!!!!! After waiting ages for Campus Ladies to return I decided to check online to see when it was coming back….HORROR…only to discover they cancelled it. Unfracking real!! I loved their politically incorrect humor. Oxygen…whoever decided this show wasn’t worth keeping is certifiable DUMBAZZ!!

I’m late in finding out Canpus Ladies was cancelled. I am so disgusted by the Oxygen network that they would cancel such a hilarious and innovative show and keep on the other crap they broadcast. Please, let the show get picked up by a better network!!!
