Is Class cancelled? Recently, creator Patrick Ness took to Twitter to discuss the future of the BBC America TV show.
A spin-off of Doctor Who, the sci-fi drama follows four students at Coal Hill Academy who must band together to wage a covert war against aliens who have traveled through space and time. The cast includes Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins, Vivian Oparah, Katherine Kelly, Jordan Renzo, Aaron Neil, Pooky Quesnel, Paul Marc Davis, Anna Shaffer, and Shannon Murray.
Class finished its first season on BBC America in early June. Ratings have not been good for the show, which earned an average rating of .08 in the 18-49 demo and 281,000 viewers.
On Twitter, Ness said he will not continue with the show even if it is renewed. He goes on to say that if the BBC wanted a second season, they’d be filming right now and a second season looks unlikely. As of reporting, the BBC has not clarified if Class is cancelled or not.

Hey, this kind of stuff matters very little in the face of the London Bridge attack, but I did want say a quick thing re the future of Class

I decided awhile back that, with unbelievable regret, I won't be writing any more Class, even if a season 2 moves ahead.

It has been the MOST amazing experience. I loved it, and I am so proud of the show and what we made. My heart just bursts with happy.
— Patrick Ness (@Patrick_Ness) June 4, 2017
But we should be filming right now. With the new cycles of Who, we'd pretty much need to be to be on the air before even 2019. But we're not
— Patrick Ness (@Patrick_Ness) June 4, 2017
And that's just TV and how it goes! Not even the littlest bit bitter. What an amazing experience.

Huge thank yous to @bbcthree and @BBCAMERICA for their love and enthusiasm for Class. BBCAmerica in particular absolutely LOVES the show.
— Patrick Ness (@Patrick_Ness) June 4, 2017
I remain baffled by the sched decisions of BBC1, which were odd for a critically-acclaimed show. But again, I'm so grateful for the chance!
— Patrick Ness (@Patrick_Ness) June 4, 2017
AND THANK *YOU*!!! You guys have been AMAZING! You know how harrowing it is to write in the Whoniverse? But the welcome has been brilliant!
— Patrick Ness (@Patrick_Ness) June 4, 2017
So thank you all SO MUCH for the love and support for Class, all the tweets and love for the cast, all the videos! Amazing.
— Patrick Ness (@Patrick_Ness) June 4, 2017
If I'm honest, a season 2 has been a faint hope, but it's a fact that BBC America LOVES the show, so who know? If so, I wish them wings!

But what a lucky man I've been to have been able to make a show I'm so proud of and work with wonderful people. Never even dreamed it.
— Patrick Ness (@Patrick_Ness) June 4, 2017
So thank you to everyone who watched and loved it and argued about it and watched it again. You made my heart swell.
— Patrick Ness (@Patrick_Ness) June 4, 2017
(And if I HAD got a 2nd season: weeping angel civil war & PLANET, Quill has a dangerous son, Charlie & Matteusz shirtless wood chopping…)
— Patrick Ness (@Patrick_Ness) June 4, 2017
So, yeah, I'm really sad, saddest in my whole career, but it's the right choice. Much, much, much love.
— Patrick Ness (@Patrick_Ness) June 4, 2017
And I think, truly, that my cast are going to be smashing it for years to come. Pxxxx
— Patrick Ness (@Patrick_Ness) June 4, 2017
I fought and fought and fought for the show. I'd love to be filming right now. But onwards, onwards.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Class? Do you think there should be a second season?
I really enjoyed the show and the diverse cast. I thought it was better than the Peter Capaldi Doctor Who seasons for sure.
Dreadful show.
A Sub buffy by the numbers teen bore fest with dreadful dialogue and a cast of cookie cutter pc stereotypes designed by tumblr committee to tick boxes and please tiny demographics. There’s a very good reason why the BBC chose to bury it in a graveyard slot, it was truly abysmal.
Ok enough of the spin offs now. Doctor Who Itself has been stale and treading water now for the last half decade. Concentrate on repairing the parent show then make spinoffs.
I can’t believe my eyes all spin off gone accept doctor who remake and original how was made didn’t leave us but remake I heard now is that 5 more years doctor who show will gone series they are much tell in another 50 years from now already anniversary of series that long.
Huh??
Class was really nothing more than a Sarah Jane adventures on steroids and more for adults. I was only able to catch a few eps. But sadly, all I could think of was SJA. Have to agree though, it’s time to bring back torchwood or “Unit” 🙂
I love this show please renew!
Class should be canceled. Its just a terrible show. They should have brought back Torchwood and had Capt. Jack restart the team with Rose Tyler and/or Marth Jones. That would have been a ratings boon for BBC.
Subjective!
Quite a cliff hanger to cancel a very fun series. Bring it back for sure. We watched it like clockwork
I love this show it was fun to watch has a small amount of doctor who in it I had hope it would be renewed . It seems like most of the shows on BBC America never get renewed except for doctor who I think I will just give up on the BBC
BBC® America doesn’t largely-represents decision-making on its BBC®-based co-productions.
We enjoyed Class very much. The first couple of episodes were alright, but episode after episode got better. We really wish there could be more seasons. I think the ratings will improve, especially with crossover shows with Doctor Who. Thank goodness Doctor Who will continue. Maybe they could combine the two shows. Thanks for the memories.
Nope. It will be a “legal nightmare!” (At least for “alt-right”/”rightists”)
I love this show. Hope it doesn’t get cancelled.
